Summary

Iranian pop star Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, known as Tataloo, has been sentenced to death for blasphemy after the supreme court overturned a prior five-year prison sentence.

Tataloo, who had been living in Istanbul since 2018, was extradited to Iran in 2023 and has since been detained.

He also faces charges of promoting “prostitution” and spreading “propaganda” against the Islamic Republic.

The verdict is not final and can still be appealed.

Once a figure courted by conservatives, Tataloo gained fame for his controversial music and tattoos.

What ever happened to those protests a few years ago?

Did they just die out because the protestors didn’t have weapons and the abusers did?

    “blasphemy”

Holy hell. How anyone defends these overly religious, dirt ball countries boggles my mind. Overzealous religion rules with an iron fist.

In Poland, you can be arrested and charged with “offending religious feelings”

America is far from perfect, but I can pretty much say whatever I want, with few exceptions, and not be subjected to legal consequences.

You mean like how they’re murdering women by preventing life saving health care?

At least this dude said something. These women were killed for simply being a woman.

          The action is already started.

              I disagree.

OP: The thread starts saying america isn’t perfect, but at least they can say what they want.

Reply: The reply is that Iran didn’t start that way either and with project 2025 were headed that way.

OP: Project 2025 is boogeyman scary stuff, stop trying to scare people and call me when they actually are doing something.

              Me: They’re already murdering women.

He’s essentially brushing off the start of project 2025 saying the whole thing is talk, when we have actual actions already. (edit: We have every reason to expect more actions.) (edit: just to further clarify… project 2025 started before 2025, it’s a long term plan by the far right they’ve been working on implementing for a very long time)

By all accounts it is not:

1: religion is not a sentient being, so it can’t be impaired intellectually 2:religion is hardly developing later than desired or expected as it was with us for our entire history 3: religion is not socially inappropriate in almost every society, and it is by no means “foolish”, and if you wanr to say otherwise it is up to you to prove it is.

Retarded was, and still is, used as an insult for those who are severally developmentally disabled. Those who are literally unable to defend themselves. The people most impacted by this have no ability to take the power back for themselves. You suggest they knew what it meant, but quite frankly I doubt, also having been involved with those with down syndrome. They might have had an idea, but it’s unlikely they all understood all the depths and nuances. And regardless of just down syndrome, there are those with more severe cognitive dysfunction, potentially nonverbal, that literally have no way have reclaiming the word. I don’t think it will become increasingly acceptable, I think it will become increasingly unacceptable.

The other terms you used, while they used to be medical terms, weren’t use in the same connotation to target developmentally disabled individuals. That’s the difference.

I think you’re in conflict with Americans on this one. Sarah Palin, the Vice Presidential candidate in 2008 who was remarkably stupid, had a mentally retarded child and really encouraged people to stop using retarded as an insult. Ironically her fame was partly derived from opposing things like this.

Using the r slur as a way to imply someone or something is stupid is associating the people who actually experience ableism with stupidity, just like calling a straight man who likes cooking the f slur would be homophobic, not because you’re insulting a gay man, but because you’re using a term for gayness as an insult.

It isn’t that hard to understand, so just stop. That is a slur and I don’t want to be reminded of ableism everyfuckingwhere I go.

I’m not saying we can use the term because they can use it as an in-group term, that story was an aside.

In that specific case, the supervisor had an R-word pass.

Get a larger pan / have some patience and mix them.

It doesn’t really matter if 30 seconds one end is in the water and the other isn’t while you’re gently bending them into the pot.

        Or, get one of these.

(Yes yes, I should clean my kitchen.)

Drop them in and the shape makes them swirl and no mixing needed when it’s a roiling boil. I do often see that they separate well but after that, no need.

If God (or Allah if you prefer that name) is so angry about blasphemy, why does He risk letting fallible humans take care of the problem?

Simply cause the blasphemer to drop dead. Then the faithful can clean up the aftermath if they wish to appear faithful, because it is less important how that is handled.

Is this comment blasphemous? We’ll see if I drop dead.

I just have to say, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept of god if you view it as a him or any kind of conscious figure making decisions for humans.

That’s not how god works, not even in the minds of its believers.

They can’t because it’s not believers vs unbelievers, the clergy educated in biblical scholarship know their position is indefensible that’s why they enforce blasphemy laws and murder apostates. Because in the light of transparency, historical context, and evidence none of the religions of Abraham are reasonable to believe.

They know it’s made up, but they can’t stop because they’ve convinced themselves it’s for the greater good to defend the ‘noble lie’.

Turkey extradites to Iran? That seems like something that wouldn’t help join the EU.

I’d say that Turkey has stopped seriously trying to join the EU, but that’s because I don’t know what they want or don’t.

My comment was intended to sound cynical, but I totally failed to actually make it sound that way. (I edited it just now in an attempt to fix that.) Europe’s relationship with Turkey is dominated by geopolitical and economic concerns, not moral ones.

Not all countries have the courts as a branch of the government.

Sweden is an example of such a country where the judicial system is independent from the government.

I think the guy you answered was a bit clumsy in their wording of it as a “third branch”, I think they mean “third” as you would a “third party”.
