When you say things like “state controlled media” you need to clarify if you’re referring to Iran or the US.

There are literal street parties that have broken out in my city. It’s mostly Iranian flags, but there’s a few US and Israeli flags in the crowd. They are all friends tonight.

Also, how are Trump, Starmer, and others still trying to make this about nuclear weapons? Nuclear weapons are state insurance. Their only use is to prevent a foreign power from using force to destroy or control a state. Kind of like what Trump is doing to Iran right now. This latest foreign intervention will only encourage whoever takes over to develop nuclear weapons faster, to avoid exactly this scenario in the future.

What makes you think all evil regimes that Lemmy loves like North Korea etc aren’t doing this already?

Which is nice given that even without nukes they showed that they’re more than happy to kill thousands of protesters and, well, generally make everyone’s life miserable.

This is a dumb take, this happened in part because Iran was pursuing nuclear weapons. Not just giving the US and Israel a casus belli but also the amount of resources pumped into the program was a major contributor to the economic issues behind the protests.

They shoulda gotten them a long time ago. And Ukraine shouldn’t have given up theirs when the US pressured them to.

Ukraine had physical possession of nukes but no ability to use them. The Russians never let them have the launch codes.

Ukrainian officials knew they weren’t getting anything worthwhile in the Budapest memorandum because they weren’t giving anything up besides a headache.

South Africa gave up their nukes and decommissioned their nuclear program. Ukraine just formalized what was already true, the nukes were not usable for them.

Are yo saying it’s good they don’t have because that way US could attack or because they didn’t use them to retaliate?

I understand you mean the former.
