Can the journalists please headline home as “American”, not leading off with a place he lived over half a century ago?
Across the country, 10 people have died in ICE custody since January.
I think at this point we can characterize it as killing. ICE is killing people.
Killing people in their death camps, too.
While I hate what’s happening in the US right now as much as the next guy, let’s not over-inflate the language used. It doesn’t help anybody.
If we start calling what’s currently there “ICE death camps” because 10 old people died across the whole country, people will get jaded, will start ignoring the cries for help as alarmist. And THEN the actual death camps will show up, but by that time nobody will be paying attention.
Exactly as it happened with Gaza.
Reminds me of the Theresienstadt Ghetto: https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theresienstadt_Ghetto
We are all being killed on this glorious day.
I can only imagine that they’ll hand pick the most heartless people they can find to run the detention centers.
Have we not heard multiple stories from people detained how all they get is a space-blanket and pretty much have to sleep on concrete?
The United States government is killing citizens and residents it deems undesirable. ICE is just the bullet.
It reminds me of nazi Germany.
Out of curiosity, if they weren’t mistreating people, what would the expected number of deaths be given the total number of people-days of detention since January?
How many do you think have died in the El Salvadorean gulag
the complete silence about everyone else who was deported there is the scariest fact.
the media just forgot about them, they latched on one person and the rest are forgotten. they will likely never see the lights of day.
Because they’re invisible now.
We sent reporters over there and now those reporters are threatened against speaking up.
The entire thing is so sad
No, he didn’t just magically and coincidentally “die”.
This was murder. We must never forget what is happening right now and we must never forgive any accomplice. Someday, they will be held accountable. Never forgive or forget the terror, slavery, torture, deprivation of human rights, and murder enacted by this administration and its accomplices.
two possibilities, both likely (at the same time).
a) Ice does not provide basic necessities to live, like food/water/restrooms/access to emergency healthcare… and people will die.
b) there are so many people detained that it is statistically likely people will die of natural causes (you dont become immortal just because you’re detained.
most likely both of those options at the same time.
more thoughts and prayers? they’ll certainly work this time
Without process, kidnapped in the streets, courtrooms and homes to be killed in detention. How can you accept this from your own country? The USA needs a revolution
Edit: I am very happy and would never consider suicide
It’s been so great the last 10 years saying “this is what will be happening because the neo-nazis are taking over” and everyone telling me I’m overreacting, I’m being hyperbolic, I’m exaggerating or my favorite “you’re just being dramatic”
Remember, THERE’S NO WAY they’d overturn Roe v Wade.
Jesus christ, if this is what’s making it to the news, imagine what is being covered up.
There are children and adults fighting for water in one of the detention. So yeah.
Land of the free.
Land of the
freefee“Whoever told you that is your enemy”
Home of the depraved
You accidentally some quotes.
skullfuck all the assholes who did this
metaphorically, of course, in adherence to all of lemmy’s various tos
Kristi Noem is a Ku Klux Kunt.
Republicans call him a criminal. Crossing the border has a criminal act, so that’s all they need for justification.
Don’t they have a criminal as a president?
Doesn’t count cuz it’s fake obviously.
No that’s literally the thought process.
“Criminal” in the same way as jaywalking.
Was he one of the Cubans mad that his family lost their slaves and plantations? And voted for Trump?
Would that make it okay for ICE to abduct him without due process and kill him?
Keep in mind you’re talking about someone who came to the US as a 15 year old child.
i’m not sure it would make it okay but it might make it ironic.
Nobody deserves that.
That said, cubans overwhelmingly support the old orange doofus.
Disfruta lo votado.
If he voted for it? Yep.
If you only have a problem with it when it happens to the ‘wrong people’ then you have a lot in common with Trump voters 🤷♂️
And how tf is someone who was getting deported voting in presidential elections? Only citizens can do that.
I only dont have an issue when people who demanded something happens, has it happen to them.
Am I sad if an arsonist burns in a fire they set? No. Was I said when the billionaire crusher crushed the billionaires? No.
All examples of people getting what they demanded.
Except you have no evidence any of that is happening here. You know he was a Cuban immigrant who has been here since he was 15 and made up the rest.
Why am I having to be in this thread explaining that collective guilt and blaming children for where they were born is deranged?
He’s not a citizen. Couldn’t have voted for this.
Hence, the “and”.
Did he support Trump prior to his arrest?
Remember, a load of Cubans love Trump, because they think he will return thr family slaves and plantations to them…
Remember? I’m not familiar with Cuban slavery in the last 100 years. Do you have a source? Just curious.
Cuba ended slavery before the US?
We still have plenty of people alive in the US whose parents were literal slaves…
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_Cuba I found this for us to read.
Im familiar, but its good youre researching why most Cubans fled to the US in the early to mid 1900s.
I feel so much safer now.
