For me Lemmy was my gateway to the rest of the Fediverse. I can say I like Lemmy way more than I ever did Reddit. The people are nicer the engagement feels more real and over all it’s a better vibe. Here’s to 2 more everyone!

Two years for me, too. But I disagree that it’s nicer than on Reddit. The way Lemmy works fosters the development of cliques. Also, with much fewer users it makes it so that ‘power’ users wind up having a weird cult-like following that boosts their posts/comments and suppresses anyone who dares to point out when those people mistreat other people and/or break the rules that are clearly applied selectively.

Nearly the same for me, but it was closer to the end of June that I moved.

I’ve not contributed to Reddit since, and only really occasionally browse it from my computer when I’m looking for something in particular now.

Kinda helped by the fact the Reddit I used to enjoy seems to be more or less dead anyway. Weird bot filled comment sections, ads shoved in your face, weird monetising features no one asked for, increasingly weird moderation.

Wow. Same here. Haven’t logged on since then either. Although I do browse r/printsf in my laptop still… Fediverse is the shit

4 years wow, so you must really remember the more quiet times. Even just in the last 1 to 2 years it’s got so much busier.

Nah, lemmy is so shit. But at least it’s our shit and not force-fed shit by an algorithm designed to maximize profit for spez pigboy…

You gotta block the tankies, the insufferable FOSS purists, the extremists, the hyper-political spam, and the anarchists if you want some semblance of normalcy.

Here and there I still see extremism, like casually openly calling for murdering others ( example ) . At least on reddit that shit would be filtered the fuck out.

2 years is coming up for me shortly. I realized not too long ago that I’ve always been interested in Reddit alt. I signed up to… volt? I forgot the name, but the users were awful so I didn’t stick around. I’m glad lemmy worked out.

“I like Lemmy way more than I ever did Reddit. The people are nicer”

    punches you in the face

    Oh, yeah. Totally agree

    punches you in the balls

Over on reddit, there are all kinds of fascists, and literal nazis.

    uppercuts you

Over here, theres an instance full of tankies, but you can avoid them.

    kicks you in the shins

The people here are TOTALLY nicer!

    kick kick punch

What? I’m not attacking you to be violent. I just have a neurological disorder that causes my limbs to involuntarily thrash out.

    punch

I’m TOTALLY being friendly right now!

kick punch it’s all in the mind

One instance? There’s at least two. But does that really matter? Reddit had r/TheDonald and r/conservative, and trying to get those people to fuck off and stop proselytizing elsewhere was like trying to play whack-a-mole against an anthill.

Here, you block the tankie instances and move on with your life.

Happy 2-year! Damn, I’ll coming up on my 2y in a few weeks. Time flies, and I don’t even remember much about xhitter and reddit anymore.
