So when do we start dragging these people into the street to return all the wonderful favors they’ve done for us and the planet?

Almost half of the country almost voted for a guy defending single-use plastics

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/poilievre-scrap-plastics-ban-1.7514037

Look at Justin Trudeau. He actually tried to take small measures.

For instance, he banned oil tankers of the BC coast. Many scientists would tell you he didn’t do enough for the environment. Under his leadership, Canadian oil production actually increased.

You read that right. Canadian oil production increased under Justin Trudeau.

Despite this, he was demonized. The opposition claimed he humiliated Alberta and ruined the oil industry. Every small decision he took was publically denounced.

Now Danielle Smith and Scott Morison, two powerful Premiers, are publically demanding this:

• Repealing/overhauling the Environmental Assessment Act
• Eliminating the proposed oil and gas emissions cap;
• Scrapping the Clean Electricity Regulations;
• Get rid of the BC coast oil tanker ban
• Stop requiring companies to sell electric vehicles
• Repealing any law or regulation that regulates carbon emissions, plastics, or the commercial free speech of energy companies.

Source: https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/news-and-media/2025/june/18/united-in-call-for-change-joint-statement

The law against green-washing? Gone. Limiting single use plastics? Gone. Banning huge tankers of the coast of British Columbia? Gone.

It’s not just the oil companies.

It’s the politics.

Don’t forget the enormously successful and equally maligned Carbon Tax which put money in the hands of less wealthy people while actually reducing our carbon emissions for the first time ever. Still waiting on Carney to implement his “market based carbon pricing” thing that was just the carbon tax by another name.

Where are the host of these events? Because these “representatives” should obviously be evicted through the back door and then dropped off in a shallow grave. Calling them worthless would be unfair, as they are a literal burden on society as a whole.

Fascists gonna fash.

Curious that the folks screaming about Radical Islamist Extremism and doing “Draw Muhammad Day” contests are all quietly friends with the Saudis, the Qataris, the Egyptians, the Jordanians, and the Turks.

Beginning to suspect there’s some kind of class politics going on here.

Theocrats want democracy to fail. They want a world of competing autocracies. Because they believe in that context god will grant them supremacy.

Theocrats want democracy to fail.

They want what they want. A theocrat with a popular majority is perfectly happy to government democratically, so long as they’re free to do as they please between elections.

god will grant them supremacy.

One of the great failures of American democracy has been the conflation of electoral success with Divine Will.

We’ve turn election season into the Mandate of Heaven rather than the Will of the People. Consequently, politicians have become more and more removed from their voting base and more dogmatic and superstitious in their beliefs and behaviors.

I grew up in churches that eventually went full MAGA. A LOT of them want a literal theocracy where ‘gods law’ is the law of the land. They also believe political leaders are put in place by either god or the devil. The conflation of divine will is biblical as far as they are concerned.

They also have a cultural agenda of raising people to participate and influence politics.

The real failure is the inability to prevent the church from re-taking over the state.

This is the catholic church all over again… just with teen pageant models instead of choir boys.

The real failure is the inability to prevent the church from re-taking over the state.

The mistake is in assuming churches weren’t running the state to begin with. This goes back to the 1950s Cold War Era, where “Being Religious” was part of the litmus test for being anti-Communist. What we’ve seen over the post-Cold War Era was an attrition of Christian religious fervor (and a general New Atheist backlash to non-Christian religions) that’s forced once prolific congregations to consolidate control in order to secure their little theocratic fiefdoms across rural America.

But they never really lost power to begin with. They only lost popularity.

America was colonized on the principles of not being taxed by a king and not being told how many wives you can have by a pope.

The separation of church and state was a lofty ideal, but never a realistic one given who moved to America.

Progressives need to start training martial arts and volunteering. Picket signs and passion are good… but we need some stoic fofo (fuck off or find out) energy in the movement.

I don’t understand this complaint. Paywalls are pretty easily bypassed if you really want and journalists need to eat. If they’re subscriber supported rather than ad supported then at least the financial pressure they are under is to provide the customer with the best product, rather than the advertiser.

That’s fine. Enjoy your paid sources. Nothing against that at all. But do you subscribe to the same ones I do? Posting articles that are paywalled on social media is annoying at best and a suspicious form of advertising at worst. Click here to read more about it
