feels to me like dentists see teeth as precious pearls that should never be touched by anything but the most gentle of waters and cared for every day for at least an hour

i really don’t get it, body parts are meant to be used, not just look pretty

You’ll get it once you start having tooth pain.

Take care of your teeth kids, coming from someone who didn’t for a long time. It’ll save you a lot of money and suffering down the road.

yeah i assume so, but still, my dentist told me i should spend at least an hour a day on teeth care every day, and a fully attentive hour too. like bro, when am i supposed to have time between work, general hygiene, teeth care, meal making, and chores to do something i enjoy doing

What are you supposed to spend that time doing? Overbrushing damages teeth, so you should do 2 minutes twice a day.

You perhaps should floss every day. And you’re slow so it takes you 11 minutes.

What are you supposed to do with the remaining 45 minutes? Snuggle up and watch half a movie with them?

i was told flossing should be an at least 20min task (ideally 30min) + 20min of using those tiny inbetween teeth brushes, and that i should pay full attention to what i’m doing to make sure i’m cleaning my teeth well

all that made me feel like it’s too much work and now i continue to just not do any of that

Damn, your dentist is playing 4D chess and it seems like they are winning - make it seem so hard that you do nothing and end up needing to spend a fortune.

I use an electric toothbrush with a flossing head twice a day, for 2 mins if I can pay attention that long, and my dentist says a checkup and clean every two years is more than enough because my teeth are so good.

oddly enough my last dentist visit was my first in like 6 years, and i got complimented on my teeth too, the only note was “drink less tea” and that’s not happening lol. and i just brush with a normal toothbrush twice a day (sometimes, usually once)

so in short, idk why i got told i need to put in so much more effort
