To keep the US happy, Mark Carney’s Liberal government is pushing Bill C-2 — expanding surveillance, limiting refugee protections, and eroding privacy in the name of national security. It’s Canada’s own PATRIOT Act, minus the excuse of an actual attack.

So many people, businesses, and countries have given Trump BJs to stay in his favour and all it does it show him he can come back and bully them again for more.

But I’m sure it’ll work out this time.

That’s pretty bad. I don’t know if the conservatives would have done much better though in terms of privacy and mass surveillance. I would hope so but yeah Pierre wasn’t much help to the party and neither were people like Danielle Smith. Both parties just suck right now and need to change.

The conservatives would have done worse. In every way. That said this government is just conservative lite. And not lite by much.

Can’t know for sure. But yeah I don’t really trust them. Privacy is very important to me and yeah mass surveillance is just bad. Privacy should be a human right. Sure mass surveillance could catch some criminals but it’s not worth spying on everyone just for a few bad apples. I don’t like this one bit.

No different than Trudeau, as anyone that reads Michael Geist has seen. Canadians wanted it clearly by voting L again.

As opposed to what, letting Poilevre win and do far worse? We basically elected Kamala Harris rather than Trump. Is Carney great? No. Will his damage be easier to undo than Poilievre’s? Hell yes.

A vote for Carney was largely a vote against Poilievre. There were clear indications of that being the case, to the point where the Liberals fielded a candidate whose biggest draw was essentially, “I’m not Pierre.” And if it was clear enough to them, maybe the CPC should have taken a cue and fielded their own “I’m not Pierre.”

You think Poilievre would have done a better job of standing up to Trump?

The entire cabinet was identical. Even Sean Fraser the worst immigration and housing minister came back and was reelected.

Do you honestly think it’s realistic for anyone to actually stand up to Trump? Trump is unpredictable and will basically just do whatever he feels like, regardless.

Yes, not in an “oppose whatever he’s doing” way, but a “that doesn’t work for us!” way. But no, Capitulation Carney is earning the name.
