    Just like with plastic waste, it isn’t random people making Gemini uwu once in a while that wastes a significant amount of water/energy. It’s the corporations submitting billions of LLM requests that’s consuming most of it.

      Really it’s the training that’s the biggest resource drain. Requests don’t require nearly as much compute power.

        Every comment on lemmy will eventually be used to train an LLM so if we really want a clear conscience, we should all stop putting anything on the internet
