Over the past few days, several gamers trying to buy a new Steam Deck have been unable to purchase the machine. Valve's increasingly popular handheld is nowhere...
Steam Frame is still shipping sometime in the first half of 2026, although now Valve says the current component shortage has led the company to revise both price and release date of the standalone VR headset.
“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now,” Valve says. “But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then.”
I’d actually rather see them just push the date back by, say, 1-3 years and then bump up the specs on it and launch in a more favorable price environment.
Once they start shipping, as with consoles, they’re kinda tied to the current generation of hardware for some years as developers target that hardware.
You might be right. It’s hard to say how things are gonna be over the next few years tho. We may be in a severe recession if component prices have normalized.
Probably the only thing I was looking forward to buying this year was Steam Frame. That’s also in danger thanks to these fuckers.

With personal computers or laptops looking to be more expensive, Microsoft Cloud being available by this point seems more than just coincidence.
