Aug 30 (Reuters) - Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI), opens new tab is recalling 219,577 Ram ProMaster and Doge Journey vehicles in the U.S. due to an issue with the rear-view camera that could diminish the driver’s view behind the vehicle, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Saturday.
Doge is making vehicles? No wonder there’s a recall!
meh. rear cameras are kind of a net negative anyways. it helps a small percentage of people use them responsibly, and a ton of people use them irresponsibly and nearly harm people because they weren’t on the image yet. the number of times I’ve nearly been backed into on parking lot…
maybe if they didn’t have all the even more useless tech in the vehicles, they’d have spent more time ensuring the useful shit actually worked reliably
I can’t remember where I saw it on but I remember watching a show years ago that went over prototypes, the episode that stuck with me was a back up cam prototype that was meant for semi trucks where it gave a near 360 view with 6 screens. Why can’t we have that? It’s not like you need multiple screens nowadays unlike 2007.
Also I can’t remember much else from that show other than one where they were going over how special forces was playing around with hybrid infrared NVG goggles. I was a bored 7 year old so I don’t remember jack.
They do have that. My friend had a Nissan Rogue like 5 or 6 years ago (it was totalled in a crash) with a 360 degree view on the screen when you put it in reverse.
we don’t even need that many screens, you can make lenses with a wider fov. but it would probably be too confusing for most people, or just make them pay even less attention to what’s not on it. or they would misjudge how far away stuff is etc
Risk Compensation theory predicts that “safety” technology, like backup cameras, just results in more aggressive driving.
