Raspberry Pi 4 4GB handled it just fine for me the last couple years.
Figure out why my new 10GbE NIC won’t read in my repurposed gaming rig (now server), get all my storage migrated over to Ceph, transition my services over to Proxmox hosted Talos k8s stack from my RPi-hosted k3s stack.
A relatively newish SBC can run Jellyfin and even do some light transcoding (single stream full HD or 2-3 streams SD).
I love Jellyfin (kind of love/hate haha), but I would never trust it to manage my media files themselves.
Definitely check out k3s. I ran a 7 node arm64 cluster for a couple years and it served me well. I’ve since graduated to proxmox/ceph and all that, wish me luck 😅
Any is very hard to benchmark and is also not how humans are tested.
Check out ansible for ways to automate this stuff. Highly recommended!
Honestly, what you’re trying to do is a great use case for docker already. I suggest learning more about how to use docker, take backups, restore from backups, etc. E.g., I have a NFSv4 share that I store all of my containerized services’ config and data files in. Any time I need to restore a precious version, it’s as easy as restoring the previous version files and starting the previous version container.
I wonder if that has to do with a call to arms so to speak. I’m reminded of a John Mulaney skit where he says at the end if the boys and girls basketball club, the speaker gets up and says how it’s great they have this organization because the alternative to youths playing basketball is drugs and alcohol… and that was the first time he heard that there was an alternative, and so he became the best at that. I also wonder if public shootings happen more when they are reported on.
Maybe to avoid triggering folks with traumatic experiences? Only thing that I can think of.
I love these games. Apparently some of the artwork has been changed instead of enhanced leading some to scream censorship. I wonder if a naked statue is really the thing to get up in arms about.
But be careful, being open source does not inherently make it trustworthy. It could be doing something nefarious that just hasn’t been caught yet.
Well you did say the tradeoff of security was “for nothing” which is why I said that. I don’t know about you, but I struggle with memory issues in my older age and would love to have a memory coprocessor that helps me. I think the interface (interaction between user and the tech) will be critical here for making it usable. Regarding privacy, M$ has been touting it is offline (unless that has changed), which is why they are going to the trouble of building out these LLMs and multimodal LLMs and the Copilot PC with accelerator chips built in. It will be as secure as any other file on your computer, but the stakes will be higher for leaks, no doubt. New encryption schemes will undoubtedly be required as it’s on the cusp of being a digital part of the users’ self.
I’m talking more abstractly about the tech vs your concrete here today Microsoft Recall implementation of the tech. It’s unfortunate M$ isn’t working towards accessibility now, but this tech will enable such things.
That is not at all what I am saying. Of course not using it is your choice and your right, but saying there is no use or value (for anyone) for this is willful ignorance at this point.
Edit: it also does not have to be a trade off of your privacy and/or security either. This tech can be done securely and with privacy-retention, but what I am seeing and hearing from this thread is that it is Bad. No. Matter. What.
Biggest impact is accessibility. Think people with memory issues or blind. This tech will change their lives.

That is seriously deranged. Copyright exists for the corporations. Any individual artist that goes up against them Loses. Every. Time. That’s my biggest gripe about AI=Bad people, my opinion of them is that they are hypocrites, have they seriously never file shared a mp3 a day in their lives?
There is also other uses for this tech than “theft” from artists. How about driving tech that learns from people’s driving footage.
