With guys like this you don’t need to find secret surveillance shit, you just need to assume it.

Is it just me or does this (the push for removing online anonymity) feel like part of a bigger move to push people into further insulated groups and prevent social cohesion?

    That’s cool, still leaving though.

I ain’t submitting my ID to anyone over the internet.

This is a place of anonymity, not for proclaiming from the rooftops who I am on here.

If you really cared and could delete it without problem, it would have been deleted way earlier, no?

I have a hard time believing people actually do these things.

Nah, it gave me 10 different things I had to do before deleting my account. Also, no. I have my limit and it crossed when they chose to implement facial ID. I am missing it still, I am looking for something to fill the open group discussion it had for me.

That’s the hard part really, finding a new group chat platform.

My friends and I are switching to Matrix but finding a community there is gonna be a bit tough.

We all become too dependent on Discord and now we’re paying the price when we try to leave.

It was hard enough getting new contacts to install it and stay connected.

Posted notices that I was shutting it down. Added links to a web page and a telegram channel.

Yeah I’m sure they had absolutely no idea before. Because Peter Thiel such a trusted and reputable name, how could they possibly known that doing business with him would be negatively construed?

He already got it. That’s the only reason a company “backpedals”. Saying this shit is only to save face so no one leaves. You know, because we’re all stupid and believe everything rich people teal us.

Smoke and mirrors mate. Hard agree though, it all goes into storage to weaponise later.

Bad thing is we’re not immune in Lemmy. Sometimes I wonder if my 900 security counter measures ever leak. I tried to go to a site to test it one time, but my features were so tight that I couldn’t even load the test page. At least it’s worth less to them than data off Facebook with some anonymity.
