It’s a solid game. I don’t remember how any of the plotlines resolved just that they were abrupt and weirdly clean endings. Still it’s the closest in feel to kotor era bioware for me. Writing is not great and gameplay isn’t great. Neither are bad though. It’s a significant level above what Piranha Bytes were doing with Risen as ELEX in the AA RPG space
I have a special fondness for 7/10 games that feel better than the 7/10 they objectively are. I recently played Enotria and would put it in the same bucket as Greedfall in that regard. Janky AA game that isn’t objectively excellent but has a lot of heart if you can tolerate its flaws.
There are a lot of imperfections in Greedfall. It’s a janky game, and if you’re accustomed to either large scale AAA polish or tight indie games with reduced scope that nail one thing well then you might be bothered by some things. This was definitely a small budget AA studio being a little overambitious with their skill and resources at times.
That being said I actually had a really good time with it, and still think back fondly on it. I appreciate Spider’s heart and effort. It’s also nice to have a fake language implemented with a clear voice acting direction so that each native NPC speaks with a consistent accent - something larger studios have failed at (looking at you, CDPR with TW3 - Blood & Wine).
All in all for the price of €3.50 I think you’ll get a good deal out of it if you enjoy the genre and can tolerate a bit of jank.
