Luckily there’s a lot more than the grocery rebate.
That said I hope these investments don’t go to the existing monopolies:
To help bring down the cost of groceries, which have been rising faster than inflation, Carney said he will direct $500 million from the government’s Strategic Response Fund to help food suppliers “expand capacity and increase productivity.”

Also heard the heard the words “unit label pricing” as well as more funding for Competition Bureau to do its job in the grocery sector.
Another reason I prefer to shop at the Co-Op. They have had unit pricing on their shelf labels for as long as I can remember.
Add that to the fact that they prioritize local and regional product (and identify that on shelf labels as well), and that the profits stay local, rather than going to some international behemoth, and there is very little reason to go elsewhere.
I wouldn’t shop elsewhere if there was a co-op around. There’s a farmer’s market near me during the summer and we frequent that.
Yes, indeed.
This would be a welcome requirement in my books.
It’s one of those examples of a thing that you see every time you shop and you know the only reason it’s the way it is, is so the store relieves you from more of your money. Pure unambiguous adversarial action. They know it, you know it, the gov’t knows it, and you see right there how the gov’t sides with Galen over you even though he cast a single vote over many of ours. It’s infuriating.
Unit label pricing should also apply to advertisements.
