Citing various GeForce partners, including ASUS, we learn that the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti has essentially reached end-of-life status - less than a year after its debut.

The reason for the RTX 5070 Ti being shelved is fairly straightforward: it’s a GPU with 16GB of VRAM, and with current price increases and GDDR7 shortages, NVIDIA is cutting back on GeForce RTX 50 Series cards with 16GB of memory. In fact, the report indicates that the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is also on the chopping block.

Is it naive to hope we might get better optimization as a result of the RAM supply crunch? Is it even possible to optimise (as opposed to use lower resolution textures?) for lower VRAM?

Thankfully I am CPU bound both for gaming and hobbies. I really hope AMD re-releases the 5800X3D or even a 5900X3D, a new AM5 build doesn’t sound like a realistic proposition any time soon.

I also wonder how AMD will react (raise price for the 9070 and the 16 GB 9060?).

This will definitely trigger optimization in the long run, but it may be a couple years before we see this user-side, maybe around the time of the next generation of consoles. What we will need to see first is developers feeling the strain of memory prices, and seeing how stuff was so cheap for so long it’ll be at least a little bit.

Bruh my 40 super card is still in warranty.

I require 2 things from a gpu. 16gb of vram and cuda. If i can’t have that ram then i have no need for cuda. If i have no need for cuda then i dont need to stick with nvidia.

I am torn, in one way i hope they are doing this because they want to make 12gb the default again. Shooting themselves in the foot, death to their capitalism and all that.

In the other way, if my current card dies i am a long way of finding any succesor.
