Likewise, AirDrop should have been a drone-based delivery service. Maybe they could partner up!
It was also moving more volume of air, not just airspeed. Sure I would have loved to see a fully shrouded experiment, but their experiment did show a regular fan moved air faster over a wider area, which would mean it is also moving a higher volume of air.
The difference between a vacuum and this fanless cooling device is that a vacuum happens to generate a small amount of static, and usually has grounding wires in the hose to prevent it shocking things, while this fanless device is intentionally ionizing as much air as possible to get it to move.
As demonstraded by the ActionLab video someone else posted, “bladeless” fans in general are less efficient. The one he tested was not a Dyson and didn’t have a HEPA filter.
I don’t think you two are even contradicting each other. The airflow going through the base can be 15x smaller than the total result, but also require more energy than just using a regular fan that moves that amount of air.
Total airflow and efficiency are two independent things.
Disclaimer: I have no real data on how Dyson fans work.
the reason people recommend against vacuuming a PC
A regular vacuum isn’t doing anything with ions or high voltages. Moving air can generate potentially harmful static electricity, but usually the reason people recommend against vacuuming a PC is because if you spin the fans doing that, the motors inside turn into generators and drive current back into your PC parts that could damage them.
GitHub Pages is a very common free solution for personal bio sites
Well, they’re talking about “tin, tantalum and tungsten”, not diamonds, so that part makes sense. They did water down the title compared to the article where they describe them as “blood minerals” though, you’re right about that.
I identify with “old man yells at cloud” more and more every day…
AI has absolutely wasted more of my time than it’s saved while programming. Occasionally it’s helpful for doing some repetitive refactor, but for actually solving any novel problems it’s hopeless. It doesn’t help that English is a terrible language for describing programming logic and constraints. That’s why we have programming languages…
The only things AI is competent with are common example problems that are everywhere on the Internet. You may as well just copy paste from StackOverflow. It might even be more reliable.
I don’t understand why they don’t just put up an RSS feed on elonjet.net Why even use social media posts? They’ve got their own website.
Technically all it takes to be a CEO is to spend a couple hundred dollars to register a corporation. You don’t need employees or anything. Generally the focus has been on CEOs of publicly traded companies, since the “CEO” of some local business probably isn’t making millions of dollars.
There’s also the possibility of him receiving threats so horrible he was coerced into suicide. “No foul play” just seems so incredibly unlikely.
Yeah, for movies and TV shows in original quality, physical media makes a lot of sense due to the size. I know I’ve been able to buy lossless music as raw FLAC file downloads, which has been really nice.
Does this have anything to do with transistors and computation? Or are they only talking about harddrives? A huge increase in density would be cool, but I’m not really convinced they would get much faster because most of the slowness comes from physically moving a reader arm and lining it up with insane accuracy. It may be able to complete with an SSD for density, but speed is debatable.
Thank god we were able to ditch flash player!
Hopefully original quality versions of things will stay available. I was pretty hyped to rewatch Westworld when the 4K HDR bluray seasons came out. Soooo much better quality than streaming.
Funny that the DRM didn’t even really prevent ripping the disks… A few different players were hacked to leak decryption keys and mess with the firmware to allow backing up to a PC (or piracy if that’s your thing). I have all my media stored locally because I can’t stand having shows being removed from streaming services.
The comic isn’t so much a criticism as it is a comedic observation of what happens in the real world.
At least that’s how I interpret it.
