  • What part of the argument has no basis in reality?

    These are the facts:

    • China has their own version of TikTok, for which they control much of the nature of the content.
    • this alternative app is only meant for the Chinese population and limits usage, so young people are less prone to waste a lot of time on it.
    • meanwhile the actual TikTok app features tons of misinformation and is made to be highly addictive
    • it is also quite well-known that TikTok collects most user information of pretty much all social media apps.
    • we know nothing about the underlying algorithms, but it’s pretty safe to assume the Chinese government doesn’t have our best interest in mind.

My conclusion is that it’s not unlikely TikTok is used at least to some degree, by the Chinese as a tool for spying, and to spread propaganda to further their own agenda.

While the Chinese version is somewhat educational, in the west it spreads misinformation, it has people waste time doing dumb ass dances and playback songs. It effectively makes people stupid.

Now please enlighten me and show me my logical fallacy.

  • You know what’s weird? When writing I knew something was off. I am convinced I wouldn’t have made this mistake 5 years ago. I definitely know the difference between “to cease” and “to seize” and in this context “to cease” is the obvious choice. It’s like I know it’s wrong, I think about it and the actual correct verb just doesn’t come to mind and I leave it as is.

Fluent in English, the last years I found words not coming to mind happens more often. I have wondered many times if this is a result of multiple covid infections I had. There are stories that hint in that direction, but no real scientific evidence I believe. Anyhow, it’s pretty frustrating.

  • Yesterday on the radio they explained that the Russians are going all-in to gain as much land as possible before the Trump presidency starts.

Trumps plan for peace is a seize cease fire where Russia gets to keep the borders as they are now. This means Ukraine will need to give up more of their land again, which of course is a win for Russia.

It will also allow Russia to replenish their military, learn from their mistakes and do another invasion in 5-10 years.

This is the reason Russia is now going all-in. They think they don’t need to ration their troops or ammo, they want to gain as much ground as possible in the next six weeks.

This could also give Ukraine an advantage if they play their cards right.

It means in six weeks the Russians will be at their weakest in years, with little ammo and men, but maybe with some ground gained, they are weak to defend.

I don’t think Trump is playing 4d chess here and that the Trump administration is smart enough to see this situation and change their plan, to actually do an uno reverse and force Russia to give up their gains under threat of providing the Ukraine with extra support, but the EU might be.

There is already talk of boots on the ground in the Ukraine. So even if the US doesn’t back them, hopefully the EU will and they can use the Russians aggression against them by taking advantage of this situation.

I would at least hope that as part of the negotiations the Ukraine negotiates a couple of nuclear weapons they can use to deter any future invasion, and that they become part of NATO, so article 5 can be invoked.
