What’s Newsgroups?
Hmm I can’t say I’ve ever used the voice features. But I (unfortunately) got my family into the Roku ecosystem awhile ago (before streaming blew up, we had got rid of DirecTV longgggg ago when it became too expensive and my dad had lost his job) and every single Roku device we’ve ever had except for the 2018 Roku Premiere+ just slowly gets more and more broken over time. The interface will take multiple seconds to respond to a button press after a couple years or so. It’s so bad that we have a Roku TV that’s so slow that there’s a Roku device plugged into it that we use instead, and even that device is so slow that I’m washing it got burned with fire. On top of that I can tell that certain apps know that they’re running on crappy hardware and software (particularly the Sling TV app), and deliver footage at a horrendously low video quality as a result.
I do but at least they don’t prevent you from suing them like Roku does.
Never mind, I guess they do

The operating system is still better though. Suck it Roku.
LOL fair. If I have a choice (we’ll see when I move out) I take Google TV over Roku everytime. Roku’s software is horrible, Apple got sued over doing far less than what Roku does with their operating system.
Why is this the case?
Why would I use Roku anyways? It’s such an inferior television operating system.
I ain’t reading all that
Nostr is fine but I find the frontends to be janky. Plus there is some community bleed due to the bridges that have been created between Nostr and the Fediverse.
Forum software is best for asking questions and I’d ask more here but nobody would even read those questions if I did lol
I love it though. I find it so much fun.
Although maybe I’d find forumming as fun as microblogging if the people here were nicer.
Having a larger and more culturally, ideologically and demographically diverse community plays HEAVILY into that side of the Fedivere’s favor. I enjoy my time over there far more than over here. People here are extremely touchy and culty, while people over there seem pretty chill. I also think the frontends over there have matured better than the forum software, although we’re starting to catch up, and third-party frontends here absolutely outclass the default.
Well that’s good
Why is it designed this way? Someone could upload illegal materials for example and that content still remains on the server. Wouldn’t that be a huge liability for instance hosters?
I used to use that but it makes it harder to find posts from smaller communities because they get less attention.
I use “Hot”, it’s nice.
Eh, I’ve praised aspects of Lemmy on the microblogging side of the Fediverse, I’m quite sure
I guess they view themselves as being censored from Threads? 🤷🏾♂️
I mean, boo hoo, it’s not like any of us are pretending that Meta supports free speech principles in practice…
There’s no reason to use it. They’re on the Fediverse, but federation doesn’t work too well. It’s somewhat inconsistent.
Sure they support free speech, but every free speech corner of the Fediverse runs on better software, and have more vibrant communities.
There’s some sort of NFT or crypto thing but I don’t think anyone uses it, I’ve never heard anyone praise or criticize it.
I used to be there, it’s not nearly as bad as Gab or Truth Social. Very cringey, but more like QuodVerum or Brighteon than those other sites.
If I was in your boat I’d probably do what you’re doing right now, because I hate Roku’s operating system. Long ago my family used this Roku for the same use case:

It’s the Roku Roku Express+ 3910RW. Apparently it doesn’t get updates anymore though so your mileage may vary with this thing.
