This has been annoying me as well, so many city services got used to just using twitter and then Elon took over and now you just can’t find out about things unless you have an X account. Shortly after the change to X I drove hours to use a hiking trail that was closed - I checked the conditions on the park service’s website, but it was using a twitter feed and the top post was “trail is open, come on in!” because it had been changed to show the top post of all time instead of the newest post.

There should be some non-profit funded by cities that’s basically just a webpage where cities can post important info, or maybe they can have their own mastodon node.

My Elon-brainwashed relative alerted me to the fact that on twitter, the main rumor is that he killed himself to bring attention to the drone sightings being a secret Chinese gravitic propulsion technology.

God I hate that site.

Many of the food couriers I worked alongside were young international students struggling to earn an income while they make their way through school. Others were refugees or undocumented workers, navigating precarious lives.

I honestly wonder if pretty much all of the surge in illegal immigration over the last 5 or 6 years comes down to Uber Eats.

So then how do we define natural general intelligence? I’d argue it’s when something can do better than chance at solving a task without prior training data particular to that task. Like if a person plays tetris for the first time, maybe they don’t do very well but they probably do better than a random set of button inputs.

Likewise with AGI - say you feed an LLM text about the rules of tetris but no button presses/actual game data and then hook it up to play the game. Will it do significantly better than chance? My guess is no but it would be interesting to try.

That’s because the death rate for these sorts of problems is very low and at best is a very weak evolutionary pressure which won’t yield results for many generations. Additionally, the heritability of medical stupidity is very questionable.

Trump is an actual reality TV star though. He’s one of the most skilled people on Earth at appealing to low-effort thinkers. Others like him in the crime/depravity department (Herschel Walker, George Santos) haven’t done as well electorally.

There’s still a lot of Democratic politicians sadly Xitting about how Elon has too much power while helping keep his media platform afloat while the boosted right wing blue checkmarks get all the top replies.

This just in: Trump just un-pardoned Steve Bannon (SCOTUS immediately says that’s allowed now).

It’s been anticipated throughout the campaign, but kind of got overshadowed by all the other horrible stuff about Trump. RFK Jr. is the biggest anti-vaxxer in the world. Trump ran with him openly to get his cult on his side. This is the obvious result.

There’s a plethora of contradictions. Americans hate for-profit healthcare, inequality, and CEOs, but love to vote Republican and worship Elon Musk. The sad reality is the people did this to themselves and will keep doing it to themselves.

Well the causal relation there is speculation. The thing that seems odd to me is the shooter seemingly went to great lengths to avoid sending a message - hiding their identity, issuing no public statement, etc. If this was over a denied claim that they threatened over, why bother hiding their identity? It would be trivial to figure it out based on the claim.

Then you have the fact that the shooter apparently used a silencer too and cleared a jam quickly. Seems like rather than a disgruntled nobody sending a message, this seems more like someone trying to make him go away as efficiently and quietly as possible.

So alternate theory: The victim had a lawsuit filed against him by the DOJ related to an anti-trust investigation and insider trading. What if he decided to make a deal with the DOJ, and somebody else found out and didn’t like it?
