Reminds me of this video I saw about economies of scale specifically regarding a special part that went into a guitar. The maker could get the material and produce that part pretty cheaply until the automotive industry stopped using that same material. Suddenly they could barely source the material anymore and just had to cancel the part.

Me too! What is the cost/benefit FOR ME? I understand what it is for the manufacturers but it’s a UX nightmare, especially when you’re trying to drive too.

I obviously don’t understand the economics of it and I realize that China will always have the upper hand on price but is there a reason every western EV has to be $40,000+? Like surely it’s possible to build a barebones model for less than 30k right - especially if I don’t need or even want touch screens or fancy interior materials or heated seats or anything.

100% this. Wouldn’t it be something if they weren’t overtly running their companies to replace all of us? If feel like focusing instead on creating great personal assistants that make our lives easier in various ways would get a lot of support from the public.

And don’t get me wrong, these LLMs are great at helping people already but that’s definitely not the obvious end goal of OpenAI or any of the others.

Trump and Vance responded like two people way out of their element, arrogant but incompetent and frustrated that things aren’t working the way they think it should be but unable to see why. Not only are they on the wrong side of history here, they’re not capable enough leaders to handle it in any way and they’ve proven it today.

Worry for America because its enemies see this incompetence and weakenss too.

Agree and disagree. There is a place for sophisticated management tools but when they stop getting supported or they’re purchase by a company you hate, you’re left scrambling to convert everything.

Best case for me anyway are sophisticated tools that use markdown as the basis of their files like Obsidian. So I know if they disappear I still have all my data in a universal format without any effort on my end.

And the rest of the world, particularly the EU, needs to realize that if they don’t pull close together they’re going to be squeezed out by large forces in the world. I mean look at the influence it already has as a bloc - if they’d cooperate more closely they could be an equal power to contrast China and the USA. Which is why there are forces working overtime to keep EU nations apart.

Hey I was a skeptic too but got to play it for an hour during the network test and am actually cautiously optimistic. I could still be wrong but it seemed like they put a lot of thought into the new systems.

That’s how they’re snookering people, because most don’t understand the size of these numbers. So its sounds like a lot even when they save a billion here and there but when we’re talking federal budget even that is basically nothing.
