How would you federate something ephemeral? I’ll admit I don’t understand the specific techinals of federation but what stops another platform from hosting your content locally after it has supposed to have been deleted? It seems like the two goals of the platforms are diametrically opposed

There’s a lot of good arguments out there. Pong for being the “first”, Pac-Man for making arcades insane and bringing in big money, Tetris for its wide appeal, Mario 64 for convincing everyone 3d games work, Doom for popularizing the fps, Wii Sports for its ubiquity, Farmville for starting what would become mobile games (which as much as gamers hate to admit, they make more money than every other platform combined). I get what you’re saying but so far in my experience here the vast majority of AI content is at least identified as such. AI content is here to stay and in my opinion attempts to remove/ban it will just make it more insidious. If you go back to Reddit AI posts/comments are everywhere and absolutely none of it is labeled. On lemmy people get to choose to interact with it which I think is probably way better

It turns out in America it’s surprisingly easy to get away with pepper spraying people. There’s a weird YouTube rabbit hole of “free speech auditors” who go around doing things they’re legally allowed to do but are shitty to get reactions. They escalate things until they pepper spray the person they’re aggravating. Even in their own videos cops show up and basically just shrug. I think the logic is that since it doesn’t cause any long term damage that a lawyer can pretty easily argue it was a “reasonable force”

Sure, we might have record unemployment, inflation can be low, and by most metrics the American economy is doing well. However people are feeling squeezed. They’re spending more on rent, groceries, health insurance, other necessities than they have in their entire lives. Most people don’t have the vocabulary to describe that economically so they use words they’ve heard. In most people’s heads inflation=things are more expensive. So they complain about inflation even if that’s inaccurate
