I think it’s good that PieFed is so small, that means they can move faster and innovate more without fearing that things will break for thousands of people. I think it’s good that a project like PieFed can try things and see what works and sticks and this is then a good indicator for projects like Lemmy to copy what is good and leave out what is not good.
This post is not about Mbin, only about Piefed (not Piefied).
Don’t try to tell people what they can or can not talk about in this thread while disregarding it yourself.
That is exactly the main reason I created my own theme, but yeah there should be a official compact theme, especially for the mobile phone.
People are talking about Piefed not Pixelfed
I for one see this as a very positive development. This is the way to make money without selling out your users but by making them your customers. Honestly I really didn’t want to use gmail as a mail provider, but I wanted to use my own domain for emails so I had to do complicated setups with MXRoute which normal people can’t do. I still have to pay MXRoute and because I’m using Thunderbird as my mail client both on desktop and phone, I might as well switch to Thundermail.
Compared to what is happening with Firefox, I think Thunderbird has been on the right track for many years now. And I’m not alone with this assessment, you can see it on the donations basically doubling every year.
Even their AI experiments they communicate that it will be running locally very cautiously, I’m telling you guys, this is the way. Not by alienating potential customers with a shift towards advertisers but instead offering them a solution to a problem they have (mail hosting) and which is really close to the core business and a natural fit.
Same with Thunderbird Send and Thunderbird Appointment, those are things around email which now are kind of hard to do for people and other clients have it build in like Outlook with Sharepoint and the build in scheduling assistant. With Thunderbird you need to know about something like Doodle and do it on the side manually.
Very efficient
I totally understand him, the Americans, Russians, Chinese, North Koreans in the end are on their own to fight against their authoritarian governments.
Very good idea
Yeah, no migration available, which is a potty but that would be quite difficult to do it right.
I’m doing it and I like it. But I switched to PieFed which is easier to maintain.
China also has good opportunities, the only problem is that China already is where the US is going, so it might not be so attractive.
Hm, that makes me think I should really go ahead and set up my own git-frontend, or at least check out all my git repos.
We live in an upside down world.
I’m a fan of local instances, like at least for a country and language.
I mean do it, but don’t believe that they do anything other with your data as flagging it as that it should show up for you as deleted while it’s still unaltered in the database.
I don’t know what it is, I went to the repo on github to read the readme, I still have no idea what it is. There is not a single sentence which explains what this is.
At the top it says it’s something for Lemmy, at least I know what Lemmy is, but most people don’t. So it might be a plugin, a theme, a frontend, an app, who knows.
Later it mentions apk, so perhaps it’s a android app, for phone or some car or other embedded devices?
Yeah, we don’t have versioning yet because there are so few instances and it’s a rolling release so to say. So most people update just every now and then. Most of the admins are in a matrix chanel together also.
