  • I 100% agree with the overall point that there are very bad outcomes to getting this wrong, but my point is that we are out of time. Even if we manage to pull off a general strike with mural aid and civil disobedience we could eventually all have to come together on a direction or course of action going forward and I dont see that happening and even in the best of circumstances I think the country balkanizes/otherwise dissolves after a series of geographically and ideologically independent insurgencies rise up from the chaos that’s about to happen.

I’m not trying to be a doomer, but I think the time to steer into the skid has passed

  • I thought it was a stupid and pointless business move or potentially a publicity stunt. And I’ll admit I’d be slightly bummed to walk into Cracker Barrel sit down and not see the peg game or all the weird old country store bullshit because nostalgias a bitch. But like it’s not even good southern cooking, the only things good there were fried chicken livers and breakfast food. The former can be found in any southern town with much higher quality and Waffle House exists and is generally really close to most Cracker Barrel’s for the latter.

  • The housing crisis is not a problem of lack in supply. More than enough houses exist in the US for everyone to have a roof over their heads. The houses they are building are not going to go to houseless people or even bought by renters or families trying to expand their spaces, they will either be rented out at rates the houseless still can’t afford or used as tax havens.

I get what you’re asking but just building new buildings without programs to make sure they get into the hands of people in need it’s just spinning wheels. Things like what I just described combined with rent control and regulate the use of real estate as an investment would go a long way to fixing things.
