Rand sucks and had no concept of power dynamics. Fitting, since she groomed her students and forced her husband who was fully dependent on her into letting her cheat on him.

News@lemmy.world•GOP lawmakers are trying to sneak an anti-trans bathroom bill through without any hearings
9·4 days agoYes, a person who looks like a man will get the cops called on them/assaulted if they attempt to enter the women’s restroom. They want to force trans people into bathrooms where they don’t conform so they no longer feel safe in public. It isn’t some gotcha, the cruelty is the point. They want trans people to go back into the closet or to leave their state.

Majority is over half or 50% + 1. And we have a very high level of purposeful disenfranchisement. Gerrymandering, restriction of voting places, removal of mail-in votes, no voting holiday, voter ID laws, purging of vote roles with no way to renew your registration in time, two parties that are ever marching rightward away from most American’s policy preferences.
Like, be mad at the people who voted for this, but it’s not even close to most of us. They’re unpopular, and most people don’t want this shit. There are more of us than there are of them so stop acting like you’ve already lost and that we deserve this. We didn’t and we don’t.
Trump didn’t receive a majority of the votes, and 64% of eligible voters voted. So, not even a third of voters voted for this.

News@lemmy.world•Archbishop says it would be ‘morally acceptable’ for troops to disobey orders
11·12 days agoThe problem is that the consequences aren’t balanced. If you disobey an order, the consequences are immediate. If you obey an illegal order, you might face consequences at some point in the future. If you disobey an order because you genuinely believe it’s illegal, there’s no protection for you if that happens to not be the case. Meaning the only way to know that you’re safe to disobey an order on the grounds that it’s illegal is to know exactly what law is being broken. Not a thing that soldiers are trained to know.
That, plus, in that moment you have to have a mountain of conviction to resist doing the thing they’ve been drilling into your head since basic, follow orders without thinking. Which is why I’m saying it amounts to nothing more than “the common soldiers aren’t supposed to follow illegal orders, this is all their fault for not stopping this” as a justification.

News@lemmy.world•Archbishop says it would be ‘morally acceptable’ for troops to disobey orders
22·12 days agoIt’s the same in the US, but you have to be court-martialed to prove that the order was unlawful (ie, you fail to obey a command, you’ll be arrested, and only let go if the military tribunal determines you were right to not follow that command).
If Germany’s system is the same… then you’ve got the rule on paper only. Soldiers don’t question orders, it’s how they’re taught to act. This is a post hoc justification for punishing regular soldiers for unlawful acts, rather than anything actually actionable in the moment.

43·12 days agoPeople don’t learn that from consequences. Is this your first time being human? They have to be taught that lesson the hard way, by having it explained to them until they internalize it. It can take decades.

4·20 days agoThe sabotage manual is designed to mimic behaviors others do naturally, but to an exaggerated extent.
Lots of people get promoted due to their relationships with their leaders, but it’s your relationships with your peers that actually makes you qualified. Since the filter doesn’t match the optimal outcome, you get suboptimal results. So, it’s a mostly self-selecting incompetence rather than malice (in most cases).

10·22 days agoSo, have you heard the “don’t comply in advance” slogan? That means a lot of things, but this is an important facet of it. Don’t cede ground you haven’t lost yet. The fascists need to fight and win that battle before we give it to them, even in our minds. They’re going to ratfuck, but we must fight it at every turn. And celebrate every hindrance to their victory. This is a win, and you win the war by winning these little battles, over and over again.

Kinda telling on yourself with this. Nothing about this looks like Will Smith
