Ah right, thanks. I only searched for “meta”, not “announcements” when looking for an answer to my question before posting. But looks like my instance stopped federating that community a year ago anyway.

a bad president
Yes, he is.
Your comment could be construed as suggesting that the reason people should not boycott Jason Slaughter is that he’s running a good YouTube channel, when actually the reason would be…he’s not American.
Mainly it’s just a typical conservative culture war thing. Bikes are for the elite leftists, so we must get rid of them.
The usual argument against bike lanes is that they take away space from cars and therefore make traffic worse. It doesn’t matter to conservatives that this isn’t true, and they actually reduce traffic.
IMO a “simple browser” of this sort should display literally only the content in the HTML file itself. It shouldn’t even view CSS stored in a separate local CSS file, let alone reach out to the web to download more content.
Theoretically, there’s nothing stopping any new country from joining getting a carve-out. You just need everyone to agree to it. And tbh, getting them to agree to let Canada continue using the Canadian Dollar is probably a much smaller ask than getting them to let a North American country into the European Union.
It may not be an issue anymore (I don’t recall hearing about it in a while, but I’m not sure how long), but it used to be the case that there were two countries that were often regarded as EU troublemakers, and by working together, even though they didn’t agree much of the time, they could veto any attempts to undermine each other. I think the other troublemaker was Poland, and I think it may have been before their last election, but that’s a lot of unsurity.
Suspension, fwiw, requires unanimity apart from the country in question, so one single dissenter can prevent it.
The EU requires unanimity among its existing members in order to add a new member. It’s not impossible, but getting Orban to agree to it is, I think, a much bigger stumbling block than the article implies. Any “concessions” Orban demands to accept Canada would themselves have to be unanimously agreed to by existing members.
Hmm, I wonder…does “my favourite pirate streaming service” count as avoiding big tech?
If you’re asking for money to fix bugs, that incentivises writing code with bugs, as if you write perfect code first time nobody will pay you to fix it
There’s certainly potential for that to be a problem. But it’s not necessarily insurmountable. For starters, I think the idea is you’re not paying to have your thing fixed, you’re paying to have your thing prioritised. The same amount of work is getting done either way, but bugs reported by people who paid will be prioritised over bugs reported by people who don’t pay. If there are no bugs reported by paid users, then unpaid bugs will still be worked on.
I’m repeating the words you used. What’s the relevance?
What’s the relevance of the founding fathers, then?
They were clearly talking about the Union during the Civil War…
at least we have proportional representation
Only in the Senate. And only on a per-state basis, so it’s only as proportional as “a proportion of 6” can be…which is much less proportional than a proportion of 40, like if the Senate were done nationally.
Naval Group, a French naval defense company
Ah shit, that’s the same company Australia had a deal with to buy diesel subs, before our fuckwit former PM reneged on the deal to create AUKUS and buy American nuclear subs.
I’ll take both reasons as cannon, thank you very much
FTFY
Australia watching on with regret.
Hardly the first time Spanish courts have completely fucking failed to understand technology (I will never get over how monumentally stupid the Mario Costeja case was), but this manages to take it to an incredible new level. The idiotic lack of forethought asside, you’d think that once the consequences were made clear and people were actively being prevented from accessing all sorts of legitimate websites, including GitHub, they’d immediately reverse course. How the fuck does one private sporting company gain the right to force a huge swathe of the Internet to be blocked, anyway? Utter fucking nonsense.
He also went on Reddit and defended his statements by saying he wasn’t familiar with American politics and he’s sorry if he triggered people. So he’s claiming to be unaware of thing because he doesn’t engage in American politics, and at the exact same time, he’s using right-wing talking points like misusing the term “triggered” to mean “upset left-leaning people”. Something he could only have picked up if he’s lurking in right-wing spaces.
