World News@lemmy.world•Millionaire CEO warns US economic situation could lead to revolutionEnglish

News@lemmy.world•Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
99·19 days ago“Europeans recognize his vision about free public transit and universal childcare. We expect our governments to make these kinds of services accessible to all of us,” said Verbeek. “We pay higher taxes and get civilized societies in return. The debate here isn’t whether to have these programs, but how to improve them.”
Yes.

1·2 months agoSoulless marvel character showcases disguised as feature films won’t cut it anymore.
I already don’t believe it should cut it, but the masses are the stupid masses.
We might actually get a proper indie scene. AI is going to pull us out of the Hollywood bullshit era.
And how do you propose this would happen?

News@lemmy.world•Trump signs executive order criminalizing opposition to fascism
20·2 months agoThe far right which has taken over ICE and the Federal government under Trump is terrorizing many, many people in this country. JD Vance, Noem, and Trump know it (the cruelty is the point) and yet all cast any criticism of this fact as “terrorist rhetoric.” That kind of table-turning projection is foundational in the authoritarian playbook.
But what I don’t understand is - why does the American public discourse seem to tolerate all these tactics?

1·2 months agoWho are you talking to? See, you’ve included me in a group which i am definitely not even a part of. If this is how people like you behave, this country has no hope of reconciliation. (I have, and would never vote for, someone like Trump, btw)

24·2 months agoI don’t know… just like how “black voters” are not a true homogenous voting block, neither are “MAGA” proponents all of the same ideology. There’s no rule book they all “abide” by. It’s a spectrum of ridiculous people.

News@lemmy.world•US TV hosts back Jimmy Kimmel and lampoon Donald Trump in free speech row
16·2 months agoUh… Donald Trump has been acting very un-American for a long time. None of his followers are patriots to the country for the values it actually stands for.

News@lemmy.world•Trump says he’s designating Antifa as a terrorist organization
2·2 months agoI think the point I’m trying to make here is that if we, as a people, decide to hold all people accountable to the same standards (especially those meant to represent us), then unchecked power like this would not continue. The Epstein files are an easy way to convict Trump for acts he most likely has done. We simply have to hold him to it.

4·2 months agoAs anti-fascists are against fascists, and he says that they are against him, then he implies without doubt that he identifies as a fascist.

News@lemmy.world•New data shows No Kings was one of the largest days of protest in US history
103·3 months agoThis take makes no sense. One of the largest days of protests in US history is a joke to you? It’s a fundamental right of the citizens to protest and exercise this right.

That’s the wording a lot of other people would use, I’d say. I wouldn’t be able to put together a PC, and most people I know are like that. I have maybe two cousins that can. But we’d probably all agree that plug-and-play means that you buy something and it works just like that. For example, a refrigerator is likely plug and play, because you don’t expect to have to put together the components to make it work. You just plug it in and it works.
