Configuration gui standard. Usually there is a config file that I am suppose to edit as root and usually done in the terminal.
There should be a general gui tool that read those files and obey another file with the rules. Lets say it is if you enable this feature then you can’t have this on at the same time. Or the number has to be between 1 and 5. Not more or less on the number. Basic validation. And run the program with --validation to let itself decide if it looks good or not.
Your new account will be online. Can access OneDrive and everything Microsoft Online offers. That means anyone with internet access can try to login to it so it has to be very secure.
Windows Hello can be used for local login. But I agree with you. I would love to be able to access my Keepassxc vault during the login process. But that might be hard to archive so better to use Windows Hello.
It is insecure to create one account with username and password during the setup process. The password should always come from your password manager. But you would not have access to your password manager during the installation process.
Please remove this step.
Timeshift for snapshots and deja backups for files
The user can choose. Please note you first much accept another client by its fingerprint.
This is where the machine is hosted? I am thinking about the domain they used might be a different one. Example I would take where it is cheapest to host it.
Maybe with different servers. But then you need a good aggregation tool and seamless experience shifting between them.
They are not suppose to do that. It is disrespect to the user privacy. Hence good opportunity to change owner. Just a design flaw of the protocol that makes it possible to abuse that. Gmail is just one single provider, but yes, many more does it and Gmail is big.
PeerTube can’t store all videos. Only Youtube can handle the storage cost by using ads due to the massive amount of users. But you could still have a list of links etc. for videos. Maybe stream directly the video youtube but never be on the youtube site. This might already exist in form of FreeTube. It only misses the possibility to view PeerTube vides as well.
I don’t use Gmail. There are plenty of email providers out there that is completely free without ads and privacy focused. Mailfence, Tutanota, ProtonMail etc. Personally I use my ISP provider that is actually pro privacy - Bahnhof . That due it is a niche and if you don’t save logs you don’t have the log storage cost.
If feddit.nu (only 50 users) did not exist I would have chosen to self-host it on the free Oracle VPS teir.
I agree. Look at email servers. It just works out. Email server owners don’t look at the content. They just host the servers. Both protocols are federated.
Forums will most likely be driven by the community and volunteers. Just move everyone over to the fediverse. Then it should be easier to find such people.
Nice. The amount of Lemmy servers online are shrinking?
Do you have a graph for these numbers?
Why buy it now and not earlier?
Good with some competition. We need much more in that area.

You have zoomed in. I want to see the y axel from 0. It have increased with 10% of the users.
I use Inoreader. Not selfhosted but that is everything i have at that company. The articles are public anyway so I don’t care that much.
My workflow is article maximize and try to hide everything else like menubar and list of sources etc. I use jk to navigate for scrolling and v/space to go to article. I use vimium extension so d for close tab with article. Article is automatically marked as read as I scroll. It takes 5 min per day to go through. I think if I would selfhost then I would try tiny rss.
I don’t use it on phone. No need. I am at my computer most of the time.
I am on Fedora. But i still have Windows dual boot left. But I dont use Windows 10 that often - I don’t see the need. I just have it as a backup OS. I have free enough diskspace on my SSD so currently not doing anything.
