I believe they meant that 30% of their product goes across the border, not that 30% of the company was splitting off and moving country.

it seems weird to say a mainstream social media platform cult following.
I agree the word choice is a bit odd. I meant in the sense that Twitter had a dedicated userbase that used it a lot and sort of glorified it. You weren’t talking with your friends or posting online, you were “Tweeting at your mutuals”. The most succinct way I could put it was “cult”, in the same sense that movies and TV have “cult” followings: a dedicated group that enjoys and bases some part of their personality around it.
By compound tariffs, do you mean extra tariff fees due to repeated trips across the border in the manufacturing process?
It depends on what you mean my positive light but generally I would say you’re wrong. Twitter had a dedicated fan base well into this decade and was where every business and personality had an account for a reason. Yes people knew of negative social media effecta but Twitter definitely had a fairly wide spread cult following.
I wouldn’t call it a mistake, personally. Even knowing the farce that it is, acting nice gave us an extra 30 days to talk deals with other leaders plus gives us the moral highground to say we tried before beginning a counter with full resolve. Any concessions we gave were small.
The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from Jan. 24-27, 2025 among a representative randomized sample of 2,012 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum.
Hoping it’s a polling error and the general populace hasn’t slid backwards…
Trump’s unreasonable nature is so obvious in the full video that I don’t see how anyone with two braincells can be on his side. Some highlights I want to share:
Reporter asks at 37:39 “… and who would protect those minerals … ?” Trump: “They’ll be protected. The agreement will protect them. The agreement, yeah we’re signing an agreement.” Reporter: “Right but what if Russia tries to invade or there’s russian agression in those spots.” Trump: “I just don’t think that’s going to happen.” He then deflects by trying to discredit the reporter since he couldn’t answer the question. So instead of giving Ukraine any guarantees or acknowledging Russia’s previous deceit, he hand waves it away.
At 33:45 “… what did [Putin] tell you that he wanted peace?”. Trump: “My whole life is deals … I’ve known him for a long time, he had to suffer through the Russia hoax, you know Russia Russia Russia it was a hoax. It was all Biden it was nothing to do with him … I think that he wants to make a deal and he would like to see it end.” What an absolute nothing answer. He’s asked why he believes this is viable and after a short attempt at making Russia the victim he just says, rephrased, “because, lol”.
At 39:50 Vance goes on a truly incoherent ramble about how Biden tried “thumping [his] chest and pretending that the president of the United States words mattered more than the President of the United States’s actions” and thus “the path to peace and the path to prosperity is maybe in engaging in diplomacy”. Ah, diplomacy, the path that is famously known for it’s lack of words… sending money to Ukraine or providing military aid? Those aren’t actions, they’re just words. Zelensky goes on to ELI5 to Vance how Putin broke diplomacy before the clips everyone is posting begins.
And just for fun, at 30:15 Trump delivers a line so stupid it almost breaks Zelensky’s poker face: “I’ve stopped wars, I’ve stopped many wars. My people will tell you, I’ve stopped wars that nobody ever heard about. I stopped wars before they ever started. … I could give you a lot of nations that would tell you right now they were probably going to war — I could tell you right now there is a nation thinking about going to war on something that nobody in this room has ever even heard about.”
This is ignoring all the times they try and blame Biden for Russia invading Ukraine which just ???
IIRC port forwarding is more of a problem with seeding than leeching.
The best way to find groups is actually https://lemmyverse.net/communities . All individual servers are missing other communities due to de-feds or lack of federation. While I can’t say numerically how comprehensive Lemmyverse is, it’s a lot better than any instance I’ve tried.
“We’ve spent two years requiring our apps from the ground up to boost our development speed, which should enable us to bring new features to you more efficiently, across more platforms,”
… “and that’s why we’re deleting a bunch of features never to bring them back. Because we’re just so efficient!” Crazy how many companies use this awful excuse.
Also is that a misquote by the author or did they really write “requiring”?
May as well start calling temples “churches” and change all speed limits to Mph since it seems we’re in a “being wrong” contest.
Not the hero we needed, but the one I wanted.
You make a good point lol. I’ve made the classic blunder of not reading the sub name…
And for those wanting a simpler and more traditional application, Nicotine+ is a great introduction.
“Would have” or “would’ve”, never “would of”. Unless you have a would of gotten, in which case carry on.
I’m going to disagree on this one, I’ve seem far too many comments, especially from LW users, along the lines of “I can’t be bothered to change websites because I’m already settled in.” Most people are attached to their posts and content and consider moving instance as “losing progress”. And the bigger an instance is the harder it’ll be to leave if they ever pull something seriously “power trippy” that could lock off content to some people, because there will be a large mass of communities and posts on that instance.
It’ll be interesting to see how things play out with Lemmy instances when Reddit bans porn.
Especially as many Lemmy instances don’t want to host or moderate NSFW content. I don’t blame them, but I’m also doubtful pornlemmy alone could handle the load (pun intended).
Welcome to Lemmy.ca! You chose well, we’ve got a pretty good admin team here.
Don’t make the same mistake I did. Get a backup in place before using ZFS. Using ZFS and RAIDing your drives together makes them a singular failure point. If ZFS fucks up, you’re done. The only way to mitigate this is having another copy in a different pool and preferably different machine. I got lucky that my corrupted ZFS pool was still readable and I could copy files off, but others have not been so lucky.
I’m using Gluetun via Docker Compose as well right now and can happily say all the ports exposed via the
ports:
setting are local network only. I could port forward them via the router probably (haven’t tried) but I only use them for access via LAN. To expose ports over the VPN connection you use theFIREWALL_VPN_INPUT_PORTS
environment variable. A stripped version of my current compose (example port numbers, not real) with LAN access to6000
and WAN access to1234
and5678
