“If we raise taxes, they’ll leave for another country and take their wealth with them.”
This is such a cop-out. Like, oh no, they’ll go steal from the working poor somewhere else. Whatever will we do without them? 🙄

Funny way to say “$10 B illegally stolen from citizens will be ignored”.
Maybe not that chill, but Liar’s Bar technically meets your requirements.
You could do a semi-automated system where you have all your currently airing in RSS, but still need to manually start them. It’d at least save you from having to go searching every time.
For currently airing/weekly stuff, you can use RSS to get all the episodes as they come out. Just make sure your search is only getting the episodes you want before you add it to your client. That means asides from the show title, also add the sub group and bitrate if they release more than one.
It’s a tiny bit more work to set up, but once it’s done, episodes just show up as they come out. :)
I mean, does that matter that much? Your irl name is just an identifier that points to you. Just like queermunist is an identifier that also points to you.
I’ve seen you before, I’ve read some of your comments. I wouldn’t say I know you per se, but I at least recognize your name in passing and have an inkling of what to expect from you.
You could almost think of it as we both go to the same school, but have different friend groups so maybe never really interact, but still know each other exists.
And some of the more prolific users I understand a bit more of. And some of the smaller communities I’m part of I know all of the regular users a little bit better.
But you’re right, it’s a bit harder than in person because you can’t put a face or mannerisms to the handle, but I think you can still know people here a little bit.
._. *patpat*
It do be like that sometimes…
But even having fun maybe matters too?
I’m sorry you got ganged up on… I, at least, enjoyed reading your comments.
Edit:
It just occurred to me that tone really doesn’t come across on the internet, and “Why are you even here then?” could be read in an accusatory way, when I really didn’t intend it as such. I meant it in more of an interrogatory sense, and I wasn’t trying to be mean. I was curious. ._.
You have as much right to be here as anyone else!
I mean, why are you even here then? Exchanging information IS a human thing, and we’re (probably) all people behind the screens. I agree that physicality is a necessity for a 3rd space, but I disagree that it’s necessary for community.
To say that we can’t help people with our words strikes me as rather pessimistic.
I mean, I it’s probably more mundane than you’d imagine. If I had to speculate, the author, Mr. Gollom, probably just got a free trip and fancy meal curtesy of the Frasier institute, or maybe he owed someone a favour.
Either way, it’s not a good look for the CBC to be so blasé writing about privatising other crown corporations.
I brought up a few of the points raised in this video when the mentioned article was posted on Lemmy a week ago.
Why is the CBC pushing billionaire talking points? It’s honestly shameful and incredibly lacking in self-awareness.
I played one because I really liked all the character designs. Eventually I stopped playing because it was too much of a daily time commitment, and my own need to be efficient and use all the free time-gated resources was stressing me out. Also, I realised I didn’t really enjoy the core gameplay that much, and the writing was really long-winded.
Kinda goes to show how much likeable characters can carry a game.
So many settings I changed, applications I installed, configured and forgot about.
Yeah this gives me existential dread as well. This is why my next distro will probably be NixOs. Their distro’s philosophy is designed off of a configuration based environment.
That hypothetically solves all those problems, although I’m sure it adds some new ones of its own.
I think it’s best to only assign responsibility where it’s due. People can’t just flip a switch and have the education system and their peers no longer be a part of the problem. We’re not going to address systemic issues by only acknowledging individual’s responsibility, especially when they’re part of a system that promotes ignorance.
That said, individuals still do have agency, so they’re certainly not blameless either. But to hold them fully responsible seems counterproductive.
Excuse my ignorance on American doublespeak, but does the “right to work” just mean the “right for companies to employ scabs”?
This is an almost universal problem for Western nations. With the rise of populism, the police are much more likely to be aligned with alt-right movements, so when alt-right extremists show red flags, they get ignored.
It’d almost be comical that this guy rejected one right-wing fascist ideology and then cozied right up with another if it wasn’t so goddamned sad.
“Well, unelected, but, I mean, he has a voice, and I think a lot of —large part of that voice is a reflection of the voice of the people,” Gonzales said.
Yeah, generally the richest person alive is super in touch with what poor people are thinking. That makes total sense.
That’s true, and I guess for smaller decisions the lower courts will have some leeway, but they ultimately still have to follow precedent set by SCOTUS.
Doesn’t it not really matter that much since the majority of SCOTUS judges are R appointees, and they get to pick and choose which appeals they want to rule on?
I’m not American, so please forgive me if I’m misunderstanding your judicial system.
