To what end exactly?
To what end exactly?
More than some nefarious corpo, I think this is more an evolution of the same problem that existed before AI was popular.
Some people realised that their credibility as a job candidate was tied on a very surface level to their GitHub profile, so they sought to optimise it. They started going to cool projects and proposing absolutely stupid merge requests, like “replace single quotes with double quotes in README.md” or “improved spacing in this sentence” in the hopes that the developers would go “well why not”, so they could show that they contributed to tensorflow or redis or what have you. Already years ago, a lot of FLOSS projects were plagued by spam PRs.
Now coming up with absolutely stupid reasons to issue a PR is a tedious job and you have a very fierce competition of people doing the same thing as you, so… why not gain the edge with AI?
Did you misread my sentence?
Ok, unpopular take here:
Based Russia, we should all be doing this - and extend it to all the junk we import from China that we have to replace every year instead of only buying once, flooding them with money and sending local production out of business.
Just because Russia is a terrorist state that doesn’t deserve their sovereignty and should receive the 1945 axis treatment, it doesn’t mean that they can’t do one right thing once in a blue moon. This is it.
I did the same when I was playing WoW a long time ago, watching stuff while doing mining routes and whatnot. But to be fair, I was doing it because the game itself was a drudgery that I got skinnerboxed into playing and pretending I was enjoying.
So I ask this to you: is the game you are playing not entertaining enough, that you have to watch something with it in order to feel entertained? If so, why not play something else that captures your whole attention? It’s your time, shouldn’t you be spending it with things you actually enjoy?
This, how people can find watching more entertaining than playing is beyond me. I tried watching people play my favourite games on twitch to see what it was like, I got bored out of my brains in minutes.
The closest I can do is watching gameplay videos on youtube, from people who do extremely creative things that inspire me for future playthroughs - but even then.
To y’all watching streams: I’m not judging you, you do you. I just don’t understand you.
Ah, turns out we just had very different definitions of “cheap” or “small”.
Here in Italy the basic vehicle is the Panda, which you get for €16k. €30k vehicles are mid market, €40-50k is high end.
Maybe my point wasn’t clear, let me try restating it: a battery with wheels will still be super expensive, because batteries are by far the most expensive part of the car. That’s why EVs tend to be sold as premium cars, that way you feel the price is justified.
China can sell you the battery on wheels because their government is subsidising those cars in order to invade the western market, they are using the old trick: sell at a loss, become indispensable, enjoy your slaves.
Turn it off then and use your own APs, it’s what I do in my home. I don’t have this specific router but I have a box with 2 eth ports, one goes to pppoe and the other to my home switch, where my APs are connected.
Which is not a bad thing, it’s more unix if you will. Router is a router, switch is a switch.
You provide your own switch and you choose the features: port count, port speed, vlan, etc — or get a 10€ switch if you don’t care. When a port breaks you replace the switch alone.
Multifunction tools are generally a tradeoff where you buy immediate convenience and pay with more ewaste and more money in the long run.
Well written. Spasiba.
I understand your feeling man. But if I may: don’t identify with the Russians, rather, learn from them.
When you are feeling discouraged, look at them. They are showing us what happens when you give up. Let their failure to be decent humans be your warning. Stay politically involved.
I don’t understand, were you talking about me there?
I do not support this war in the slightest. Russia should not have started it, it was an idiotic mistake to start it and it is an astonishingly stupid mistake to continue it. If I could snap my fingers and let the war be over I would do it, I’d give a lung for the war to be over.
That does not mean I want Ukraine to fold. I want a just and durable peace, I want the peace that Ukrainians want. Unfortunately, the only way to achieve that is to keep fighting - so while I do not support the war, I support Ukraine’s resistance. As long as they will want to fight they will have my support - moral, political and economic.
And on this very rare occasion where history gives us a war with a clear aggressor and a clear victim, I have no sympathy for the aggressor and its personnel. May they all die.
Hope I made my position clearer, “chickenhawk”.
You are right, and that is part of the problem.
Yes, it’s not easy being a dissident in Russia and many chose the easy way out by leaving the country. No judgement there. But if you stayed and you kept quiet you are responsible for what is happening.
Let me be absolutely clear: Putin is allowed to be a dictator because people chose to be “uninterested in politics”. Those who chose to not get involved politically are not the result of the oppression but the cause. Ask anybody who knows anything about the Russian people.
And yes I know repression is hard. But as I was saying, when Ukrainians faced a similar problem they went to the street and rallied, staring at death in the face. They fought for freedom ten years ago and are still doing it. Russians did nothing of the sort.
As an Italian I have no problem admitting that all those who did not side with the partisans - my family included - were responsible for the atrocities that my country committed. I don’t see why I should hold Russians to a higher standard.
I’m so tired of hearing this, can we stop with the “poor Russians under the tsar” narrative?
When Ukrainians got pushed towards the russian empire by their aspiring dictator they did Euromaidan, they got shot at and bravely pushed on, and have been fighting for their freedom ever since. They get to complain about Putin, and they get my sympathy for their suffering.
Russians have completely given up their agency, a couple of arrests and beatdowns by the police were enough to pacify them. I don’t see any protests or rallies anymore, I don’t hear about any partisans. Those in favour of the war have no sympathy from me. Those who are against it but kept silent because they chose a 0.5% chance of getting shelled in Ukraine over a 100% chance of getting arrested have no sympathy from me either.
To the dead Russian who “didn’t want to be involved”: cry me a river, you had your chance to not be involved. You get what you chose. Good riddance.
Ouchie, thanks!
Haven’t used the thing in a while, is there still no bridge?
Not saying it can’t be, but I’ll be more convinced by an article that is a bit less emotionally loaded. It’s clear that the author has a bone to pick with Microsoft, and it reads as it’s written by a high schooler who wants to LARP as a journalist.
Just to be clear I have been in big tech corpos with cult-ish undertones and I have also seen the mindset poppycock shoved to my face multiple times, it’s not that I find their contents hard to believe. I just find that article hard to trust.
