I would just not use anything but double conversion. Buy a refurb with new batteries and a solid warranty and don’t worry about it again.

If you buy something nowadays and it connects to the Internet, it’s bad. Treat it like it’s bad. VLAN it, firewall it, force it to use your DNS only and block everything until it breaks then figure out what it actually needs.

I second this. Once i was confident enough to start virtualizing (I’m old so this was a while ago) I took a chance and it’s been so good. I use probably a 1/10th of what it has to offer but that just means there’s tons of head room for you.
I would recommend a small form factor (i use dell optiplexes, some offer more options for sure though) and stuff it with a bunch of memory. For the cost i would max it out. A Dell 7060 micro i5-8500 with 64gb has allowed me to be able to not worry about resources at all.

Hahaha. Just because it’s “legal” here doesn’t mean it’s not stealing. Taking billions in insurance premiums and then spending it to lobby to make it harder and harder to qualify to receive money for a claim is “legal” but so unethical and morally bankrupt that a guy just killed a CEO because of it and the entire country just shrugged and said “Yeah that’s about right.”
