And raise prices every year because “we’re building out new infra!”
And raise prices every year because “we’re building out new infra!”
Sure, but why do meta/goog/MS need to be there? Are they opening up research to each other?
If it is a successful model, it would be our moral duty to fund it.
Maybe start with corporate handouts. Just a fraction of a few billions every year we give to oil and automakers could fill the funding gap.
And lets pretend that the government already runs 100% efficiently and there’s no more fat to cut, then i would gladly pay more taxes to fix the opiod crisis.
That money spent has trickle down effects. Fewer crazy people on public transit, our parks would nicer, we could actually have public bathrooms opened all year round without fear of them being used as injection sites
Frame it as those benefits, and i’m sure most canadians would cough up an extra $20
Canadian Government “Sorry, the best I can do is get give tons of money to three companies that are an oligopoly to one day, maybe, fix this.”
OSS is a corporate lie. What you are describing is free software. Freedom to modify and distribute
I was talking to someone about this very same postal issue, and his example was DHL. “Privatization turned them around! They’re now an international company!!!”
Why the fuck does canada post need to be competing internationally? Just deliver the mail and have a gov’t presence in small towns to provide other services.
Just spend the money to service canadians… It doesnt have to be profitable nor an international competitor
Also, DHL sucks…
Had privatization ever worked out? Like, ever?
Yes. It works out really nicely for our oligarchs.
I dont really understand their business model.
Hosting these huge model files. Why cant facebook/goog/m$ just do that on their own?
How did these massive ai giants end up relying on huggingface for everything?
There’s a bit in the simspons where activists burn down a lab and a robot runs out of the building screaming “why??? Why was i programmed to feel pain?”
Does anyone remember when canada was building one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets and cancelled it because the americans said they would build a missile defense shield that would protect us instead?
Make the avro arrow great again!!!
Webrings ftw!!!
And how much of that 2% is actually separated bike lane? Paint is not infrastructure
A white line with a bike symbol painted on the road doesnt protect anyone
On youtube, you’re not the customer. You’re the product being sold
Fire stations aren’t profitable! We need to phase out direct services to individual homes! Community fire hoses to be provided near every hydrant!
Does the boot screen look ok? Does the login screen look ok?
I had a problem with my new 9070 on debian KDE, and the issue was with color accuracy setting
$10k debt, buys a $50k boat… Yeah this dude has some other savings account or social safety net
I mean, to be fair, most of us are way more in debt to our mortgages… But there’s clearly something more to these stories than just “man quits the rat race, lives more simple life. So can you!”
I’ve been full time linux since 2017, i think (it was a long time ago)
Honestly, linux gaming with steam/proton has been really good for a LONG time. Like even “AAA” games like RDR2 have been working well whenever i buy them (not on release day, but maybe a year after)
In 2025, there’s really no reason not to go linux unless you play some very specific game that absolutely doesnt work on linux
What if fdroid goes rogue or gets hacked?
I’m an fdroid user, but i often wonder if it is safer than google play store
Likelihood of google getting hacked/rogue is much lower than a small, community run volunteer project
“If dev goes rougue”
Isnt that a risk for all app stores?
Has FPTP always been this problematic in canadian history?
How did this “work” for the first 100 years of confederation?
The rock says: shut your mouth, and know your role!
This guy’s “people’s eyebrow” sucks… And he looks like he has about 1/10000000000000th of the charisma of the rock
