A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God’s plan and that Pres. Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,” according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer.
From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).
The complaints came from more than 40 different units spread across at least 30 military installations, the MRFF told me Monday night.

I mean, you can interpret them to justify pretty much anything.
This isn’t even a hard case. The Israelites massacre people of other religions, and Iran is at a slightly higher latitude than Isreal so you can shoehorn it into gog and magog.
Im jewish. Im fully aware of the pervervions the Zionists have projected onto the Torah. However, there is a reason that a large portion of the Hassidic community is anti-zionist. The Torah explicitly states that if we have to break any of the rules of Torah to establish Israel, it will never last because it isnt true. That is why they are trying to cause enough chaos for the Messiah to come. And that is why they have been able to get western evangelical christians on board.
I’m an atheist, and ethnically Jewish, for what it’s worth.
I could come at you with all the typical atheist arguments, if you want, but this is Lemmy and that feels repetitive.
And i appreciate that. Then, you should know better than most that lumping jews together with zionists is a dangerous game. I was raised pretty secular so i am only learning the deeper parts of things the last few years. But from what i understand, that is why there is such a massive riff in the orthodox communities. Some jews take those passages literally and forsake the rules ahead of them. Some, like torah jews and certain sects of hassidics, look a it more metaphorically and the rules of YHWH take precedence
Hey, off topic, but do you know any good ways I could get back in touch with the community, as an anti-Zionist atheist?
Honestly, i wish. Ive been struggling to find a safe place to reconnect with that heritage myself. A lot of the standard temples are pretty heavy on zionism. Thats why i was so happy to find out about Torah Jews. I dont know of a Torah specific temple near me though. The most luck ive had is at Unitarian Universalist churches and the internet but that is not the same as having local community of your people
