It really doesn’t make sense to lump rent and mortgage together, and I feel like Gen Z is hit hardest because they’d have the lowest rates of homeownership.

My mortgage payment doesn’t change, but rent has almost doubled since I bought my house.

If I was renting a small apartment, I’d be paying more and struggling. If I had to rent a similar sized house, I fucking couldn’t.

The real title is the title of the graph in the artle: “Gen Zers Most Likely to Struggle with Housing Payments”.

The article is lumping rent and mortgage together because including both covers all ways someone can pay for housing. The “hit hardest” part is in there to communicate that, while GenZ is getting its ass kicked the most on housing costs, it isn’t the only generation having trouble.

I think they mean new mortgages. Which is kinda stupid anyways, because houses are so expensive and the market is so volatile. Basically anyone who didn’t buy after the 2008 crash is never gonna get a good price.

Seriously. I already don’t have streaming anything (except dropout), barely ever eat out, brew my own coffee, wear decade-old clothes, don’t drink or smoke, get movies at the library, etc… It’s like I’m involuntarily boycotting the elective economy

The people doing all the work barely contribute to co.sumer spending anymore. They’re gonna fuck up one day and wonder why rental income dropped off a cliff and why all the grocery stores are getting robbed if food daily

Oh good I’m not the only one looking to cut out food? Already cut out streaming services thanks to the high seas. Got to look other ways to cut now. I might as well cut my insurance because anytime I make a claim with those assholes they deny it.

Just live in your mom’s basement dummy.

But seriously I knew several female coworkers that did not want to date men that lived at home. I recall one guy did a massive in-law suit renovation to live in his dad’s home and coworker ditched him because he was 31 living at home. Like sister you live at home cause its expensive.

This pressure is the leading cause to lower birth rates, loneliness, and crush the wallets of everyone who didn’t buy before the housing market skyrocketed.
