ICE is on a multi-billion-dollar quest for new immigration detention facilities, but they’re increasingly facing pushback from an unlikely foe: Republicans.
While Republicans may back the president’s immigration blitz on a national level, they’ve been leading voices of local pushback against ICE’s warehouse expansion while hinting at an old refrain: not-in-my-backyard.
Republican elected officials in Mississippi, New Hampshire, Tennessee and beyond have fought proposed facilities in their states.
why do they keep calling their concentration camps “detention facility”–
they’re fucking concentration camps
TBF, the Nazi’s didn’t call them concentration camps either.
It’s what they were called by the people, but it’s not what the Nazi’s called them.
ok, noted.
they’re fucking concentration camps
Republicans are revolting, you say?
Always have been
So they dont have a problem with it in general they just sont want it around them? Thats what the excerpt seems like its saying and the article is paywalled
Of course that’s why. They want brown people gone and concentration camps are the opposite.
We used to deport people here illegally back to their home country. All else aside, why are we not doing that anymore? What are these people imprisoned for? Do we now have a national police force?
In the end, these facilities are not for immigrants, any more than Cop City is about training regular cops for public service.
