I want those in Gaza to get all the support they can to survive this and I’m glad for them to get something rather than nothing from Canada, but I also see this as primarily just performative face-saving from Canada. We aren’t doing anything like as much as we could to apply pressure. Instead, we’re taking minor actions that won’t actually apply much pressure or change the course of Israeli plans while making us look humane. It’s government trying to relieve a bit of public pressure and maintain international image while not doing anything to really rock the boat.

About time - now hopefully we ban all Canadian arms sales to Israel and end impose sanctions until they back off from genocide (at the bare minimum).

Yes I wish that the borders could be opened to let vehiclee-based aid through, but that seems outside of Canada’s control. I’m glad my country is doing something, even if that something is less than optimal.

      Edit: spelling.

Bollocks, there’s plenty of treaties and trade we can slash to sanction Israel.

These humanitarian drops are essentially pointless. We need to cut ties with this bloodthirsty american project.

Load aid onto 100 Canadian flagged ships, run those ships past the Israeli blockade. If their navy attacks or stops the boats just keep sending them. They can stop a few boats but they can’t stop them all and if they attack the ships then Canada should send in troops to force the aid trucks into Gaza.

You’re willing to risk Canadian lives and start shit with a nuclear-capable country?

I’m guessing you’re in the recruiting lineup right now hoping to join the Navy and serve your country on one of these ships.

Otherwise, stop being so lax with other’s lives.

Edit: also, Google tells me the RCN has about 40 ships, total. So not a great idea overall.

I didn’t say navy, just Canadian ships, merchant or otherwise.

Is a nuclear capable country willing to attack our ships in order to continue a starvation campaign and genocide?

I agree with your overall sentiment, I just do not think putting more people - civilian mariners especially - at risk is going to solve the problem or push the conversation forward.

Did you hear about Greta Thunberg being on a boat and being illegally kidnapped from international waters by the Israeli navy?

Did you hear about the next boat that went, where an American labor activist, Christian Smalls was on board, he was also illegally kidnapped by the Israeli navy and beaten while under arrest.

They are willing to put themselves at risk in order to try and get aid in for starving people. There is a solution that guarantees they will get food and aid, it will not happen without pressure from all of us and it involves occupying the occupiers.

So get off of Lemmy and get on a boat, dude, and stop telling others what they should do without doing it first yourself.

Unless this is Greta’a lemmy account…?

A lot of people always talk about what’s easy to do, from the comfort of their couches on their iPhones.

But if I get off Lemmy then someone else with ideas on stopping a genocide would have to be poo pooed by you.

If I waste your time maybe someone with a better idea might be seen by others and not caught up by conversations with genocide supporters.

I’m all for ideas to stop the genocide and I am 100% against what is happening to the Palestinian people there.

What I am against is sitting comfortably at home and asking someone else to go risk their lives to help, or hearing someone else suggest the same.
