When gaming with friends, many times we’ll share our screens simultaneously so we can help keep track of group members if we get split up.
Are there any discord alternatives with this feature?
Bonus points if it allows you to also toggle on/off the audio from the share separately from their microphone.

TeamSpeak does all this, and arguably better at it than discord.
Downside is the text chat sucks. But if all you want is the voice/video, it’s great.
I don’t see anything on the teamspeak website about video calls or screen sharing… Do they have but fail to advertise that functionality? Or am I just missing where they mention it?
Weird, yeah, looks like they don’t mention it outside of the community forums. They do though, was just using it last night.
You need TeamSpeak6, aka the “beta” build.
How can text chat suck? It’s like one of the most simple things to do and has been done since the 1990’s lol
Not even Matrix has figured out text chat that works as well as Discord’s. A Discord server has a sense of place to it. Matrix channels change position based on the most recent message, which damages the ability to create a sense of place.
An easy ui fix, but misses that they separate the concept of spaces and channels entirely. You can essentially join a server’s text channel without being a member of their server depending on permissions. The UI has ended up created from a user POV rather than being server-based because of this perspective. That being the case I doubt it will change.
Stopping them moving would still be better though
And that’s why I can’t use Matrix for what I use Discord for. I run several Discord servers including one that I literally used magic to guide My hand in creating the channel layout, and people in the server can feel the magic in the !air. Which is appropriate, because it’s an occult server. Such magic would never be possible on Matrix.
So when people say Matrix works as a Discord replacement, I disagree. Members of My coven have felt a pit of nausea in their stomach when they try to engage with Matrix the same way.
That’s fair, but I think looking for a one-size fits-all-purposes is guaranteed to fail. Your replacement can be different to mine and that doesn’t make either a bad thing, just represents the various different needs that discord filled.
