$12 million and 25 guns collected. I knew this was going to be a giant waste of money, I didn’t know it was going to be this bad.
I wonder what the total cost per gun will end up being, considering they’ve been “implementing” this for five years. That’s a lot of consulant salaries.
I think that’s what they’re talking about giving Quebec for being in the program, not the cost of the pilot. IDK how much the pilot cost.
It is, they’re separate numbers. It’s just emblematic to me of how this is all about optics and not results.
Well I for one, feel much safer now.
How will you fight the yanks when they invade?
That person was definitely being sarcastic.
So was I?
Molotov cocktails filled with maple syrup.
(Edit)…and gasoline.
That actually might work…
Better off the streets than potentially being used to shoot up schools and Canadians
The streets? They’re in people’s safes and gun cabinets until this situation is sorted. It’s been 5 years now, hundreds of thousands of legally purchased guns they intend to confiscate with little support from the provinces.
they intend to confiscate with little support from the provinces.
Your post title:
Federal government confirms 25 guns collected in ‘buyback’ pilot, as Quebec pledges support
CBC:
The government also announced Wednesday it will provide up to $12.4 million to cover costs incurred by Quebec to run the buyback program in the province.
Quebec Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière said in a statement the province supports the federal program, calling it a step toward safer communities.
National Post:
The public safety department announced it would compensate Quebec to the tune of $12 million to assist in coordinating collection efforts.
Quebec is one of several provinces with its own provincial police force, the Sûreté du Québec, and is the first province to publicly declare its intention to support the federal program.
Apologies, I am going to assume this is a topic you’re not very well familiar with. This whole entire program is for Quebec, more specifically pushed by PolySeSouvient - claiming all licensed firearm owners are the problem for the rise in gun related crime, not the firearms that are illegally sourced, yet 9 times out of 10 crime involving firearms are illegal firearms.
Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Ontario (essentially) and the Yukon have all rejected the program knowing there is no public safety benefit and a huge strain on the already spread thin police forces, even Mark Carney’s own Public Safety Minister was caught in leaked audio claiming he would have done this program differently and that this is a waste of resources but kept going on with Justin Trudeaus failure.
Edit: it should be noted that this program is effecting folks who take part in professional target shooting as well.
