To no one’s surprise, this author puts out this kind of garbage:

No randomized controlled trial has ever shown that masks — even good masks properly fitted — reduce transmission of respiratory viruses.

The only explanation for this, that I can think of, is that there was a desperate need for a way of ritualizing the fear that had been generated, and masking provided the needed ritual.

It’s from the same book that The Walrus is irresponsibly platforming. This is a guy that is objectively wrong about his approach to reporting public health matters, got rightly booted from CBC, and is now complaining about his shitty journalism falling outside the lines that a proper broadcaster is correctly drawing.

Yeah, it’s all cosplay. But it doesn’t help when mediocre researchers with MDs at McMaster actually publish that masks don’t work, using data from nurses, ignoring that nurses don’t wear masks when not working. One guy publishes this for every viral outbreak. Why? Another publication for the CV.

MDs are a 36 month practical degree with specialized training afterwards. They are not scientists.

WTF. Walrus used to be good.

My issue with media on science: very few of them are educated enough to know the difference between shit and Shinola, so they weigh bad science with good science equally.

It’s not hard to find bad science that tells you what you want to hear. UHN researchers in 2020 actually published that COVID-19 was from outer space. These people are a waste of tax dollars.
