Summary

Elon Musk’s ownership of X, formerly Twitter, has shaped conservative discourse globally despite being a financial disaster.

X has become a powerful platform amplifying right-wing political narratives globally, often elevating inflammatory conspiracy theories and contentious stories, shaping public discourse and influencing political outcomes.

Musk’s algorithm boosts his posts, influencing millions, while X’s content increasingly skews rightward, from conservative centrists to extremists.

Recent examples include Musk reviving the UK grooming gangs scandal and endorsing far-right parties like Nigel Farage’s Reform Party. Critics argue Musk’s actions, including attacks on British Labour leader Keir Starmer, are politically motivated.

Just because of this I switched most of my activity to BlueSky. It’s not really federated, but at least it’s not Twitter. I use Mastodon as well, but it’s basically the same audience as Lemmy.
