Summary

A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol after he failed to cooperate with investigations into his brief December 3 martial law decree.

The decree, widely condemned as a rebellion attempt, led to Yoon’s impeachment and suspension from office, though the Constitutional Court must confirm his removal.

Yoon faces charges including abuse of authority and insurrection, which carry severe penalties.

The arrest marks an unprecedented move in South Korea’s history and intensifies the country’s ongoing political crisis.

I always like articles saying this is unprecedented for South Korea, a country which has experienced a revolving door of coups and military dictatorships since it’s creation up until 1997 when it had its first peaceful transition of power in history.
