I think I understand your point but various European OEMs are making small EVs in the 30k euro or less range that are not being brought to the US market. Examples include the VW ID.2 and ID.3. It’s not like VAG doesn’t have a US presence but they’re still only selling the $40k+ ID.4 and the $60k+ ID Buzz in the US market. The Volvo EX-30 was announced as a $30k+ entry level EV that was supposed to target the lower end of the market but by the time it wound up in the US the base model is now $42k.
I’m not sure how true that is, at least in the USA. Almost all OEMs are targeting the mid to top end of the market for EVs (SUVs, trucks, luxury models). Almost no one is coming out with an entry level model that would be the equivalent of a “Toyota Corolla” EV, that is, a bare bones car that runs on a battery. Yes, there is some protectionism going on with preventing the Chinese from entering the market, but I think most of it is just OEMs trying to maximize profit to a grotesque degree.
I drive my ID.4 exclusively in normal drive mode. I tried one pedal driving and hated it. I don’t understand the hype. To each their own. My point was that regenerative braking doesn’t depend on one pedal driving.
Regenerative braking is good thing, yes .But implementing it as one pedal driving is terrible. Other OEMs like Ford or VW blend regenerative braking into the brake pedal of their EVs such that it feels exactly like a normal car. The friction pads are there for either emergency braking or for bringing the car to a final stop after slowing down.
My dude thanks for the message of positivity. Personally I think we’re fucked regardless but I do appreciate the thread of hope. I try to do what I’m can individually as well and sometimes it feels futile but it’s good to know that there are some of us (dozens even!) still trying to do the right thing.

I’m not technical enough to think it through carefully but I’ve always thought there was an opportunity for an organization like USPS to develop email 2.0 - something that gives people some kind of verifiable and secure email address so that users can easily find each other whilst filtering out spam (or to have spam taken into consideration in the design at the outset). You would design it based on strict standards that would be difficult to get around so that big tech could not easily co-opt it, and adopt for some kind of critical function (taxes, voting maybe?) so that it would encourage adoption en masse. Make it distributed so that users can selfhost it easily, safely, and securely.

Yeah but a model 3 is not a large car. Compare to something like a Crown Vic, the de facto standard for a police cruiser for a long time.

You could set up a dummy LAN with no internet access for the tv. Unless it actually has more than one network card, it would need to be able to have the ability to virtualize network interfaces to connect elsewhere, and I really doubt these TVs are that smart.
I have the Ubiquiti Edgerouter X. I got it mostly because at the time it was on sale 😂 but it seems to have decent support. Note that you will have to get a wireless AP as the Edgerouter is a pure router without WiFi function. Lots of people also like Mikrotik products.
