minorkeys@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Trump floats pulling licenses if networks are 'against' him after Jimmy Kimmel suspended2·1 day agoNew leadership is needed in established power structures. People need to act weekly and daily to promote action. People need to find each other and work together to find a way forward. Not hypothetically on the internet.
Find each other and start the dialogue. Literally meet up somewhere and start the conversation. What is happening? What is going to happen? What are you concerned about? What is at risk? Why does it matter? Talk.
What is within your reach as a citizen? As a small group? Local boards, city councils erc. What positions are elected? How can someone from your group get on the ballot? How can you be an election worker? What are processes for becoming one? Be at the council meetings and ask the questions that need to be asked, together. Show up to the town halls. Figure out your legal rights, find lawyers who share your concerns, email, call or otherwise contact your reps until they have actual answers. Help each other learn how to do all of this. Support each other when you inevitably fuck up and commit to pushing forward.
None of us can tackle Donald Trump or the Senate or the RNC. That isn’t your job or mine. That’s Pelosi and Schumer and AOC and Bernie and whoever the hell else is operating at the federal level. Maybe they succeed and maybe they don’t. Citizens can affect their local school board, the city council, county positions, district reps, your local DNC, Union etc. Focus on your sphere of influence, whatever that is right now.
Find each other and do just try your best, that’s all anyone can expect. What are the problem that need solutions? What are the questions that need answers? How can those be answered and solved. Everyone has something they can contribute and the more people that get involved the more likely it is that those collective contributions start making a difference.

minorkeys@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Trump floats pulling licenses if networks are 'against' him after Jimmy Kimmel suspended24·2 days agoWe can’t pull licenses for death threats to homeless people, that provoked the murder of them, but we can for this? I don’t know what the disconnect here is for people to not be terrified of this administration and the direction it is going, that they aren’t becoming active in opposition. Oppose the politics, the businesses, the media, the communities and the people who support this. There will be no safe spaces from the violence of the state and it’s allies. They must be disempowered before it gets to that point.
That’s means voting in every election you are eligible to across all levels of government and for politicians who are clearly and absolutely opposed to this and are actively opposing it. That means taking actions that confirm the integrity of the democratic system and taking actions to make it known and work to make sure it is.
That means spending money only at businesses who are clearly and absolutely opposed to this are actively opposing it.
That means disengaging from media sources that provide content that supports this fascism, gives voice to those that do and that does not openly and actively impose it. They have crossed so many lines already that it should not even need to be said that it is already too far.
That means only engaging in communities that are clearly and absolutely opposed to this and are actively opposing it.
That means only maintaining relationships with people who are clearly and absolutely opposed to this and are actively opposing it.
Doing this looks different for everyone and only individuals can figure out the details of moving their life towards resisting the fascist takeover of the American civilization, it is not just the government, it is the entire civilization.
If I asked what you are doing in your daily life to better oppose this shit, and you have no answer, then you failing yourself, your country and the future generations that will have to suffer under the boot of dictatorship. You are not alone in this, there are allies all around you, but we all need to start walking the direction we know we need to go to find each other on the path.
The best time to start was yesterday, the second best time is today.

You know its fucked. I know it’s fucked. That sentiment needs to resonate from the halls of power like the wrath of thunder from the combined voices of everyone who knows its fucked. Political action needs to become an everyday habit.

Forcing people to upgrade entirely depends on the nature of the upgrades and the motive of the company. What we need is competition so there are alternatives for people to use if they don’t want to upgrade. But somehow Microsoft is not considered the monopoly of the PC OS market, despite being a monopoly, and uses that position to force changes nobody wants but them, like turning window into an AI data farming scheme that violates user privacy.

minorkeys@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•“White men fight back” Protests erupt in Huntington Beach in wake of Charlie Kirk murder1·5 days agoDialogue and understanding are not insane, they are the only peaceful path to grow together. Few people are genuinely horrible, most are ignorant or hurt or scared and reducing their entire life to ‘they chose this so fuck them’, while they have been indoctrinated since birth into right wing ideology is exactly part of the not understanding them. The normal rules of trauma, dogma and ignorance don’t stop being true when it gets hard and that same deafness is what helped make it as hard as it is today to reach them.
Capitalism claims to be about needs but it’s really just about the wants of the wealthy.
