Bringing that “No, you are!” Energy.

Then you’re bad at listening.
American isn’t xenophobic, well, current American leadership might be.

There is no economic solution to climate change. Factoring in the externalized cost of pollution would make everything unaffordable. Until technologies provide economically viable solutions, the economy is just gonna keep doing what it is currently dependent on to function.
They were, yes, because the US was a trusted ally who shared a worldview, geopolitical interests and political ideal of democracy and other values. China never has. The US no longer does. Europe is the only other major car making economy that Canada shares values closely with but they aren’t making cheap EVs yet and may never.
More trade with China creates more opportunities for whatever their geopolitical goals are and empowers those efforts, including creating the kind of trade leverage the US has been using to force compliance. Canada must trade and the options are not ideal.
They are one of the most powerful world players and xenophobes, they are an existential threat to everyone.

Trump will not relent in his demand for absolute power. The inevitable end to succeeding at that pursuit is insurrection and then civil war which Minnesota can not afford to incite without alignment with enough other states. It isn’t cowardice to do this alone, unless absolutely necessary and when other states have had time to repair for their own rebellions.
