I’ve been party to a few of these exchanges recently, and between open citizen violence and letting things go on as they are, I think I am now rooting for our society to just collapse under its own weight. And with enough mismanagement, it certainly will (already is). While that will produce a great deal of suffering, at least it could provide a chance to fix some things.

I wanted to reply to numerous comments, but I’ll just do it here. The people aggrieved that democrats/liberals/the left didn’t do more are not wrong for being upset, even very upset. Things are generally better for everyone, in recent history, under left-side leadership. But our representatives have been beset by corporate capture since the 80s/90s so by my estimation politics has been a performative art for my entire lifetime. Still anyone with their head above water knows you’ve got better quality of life under democrats, even if they are deceptive or corrupt.

The system needs replacement. It has been captured whole by multi-national industry, corporations, investment interests, and billionaires. It is currently being bent and corrupted to the point of no return. Even if democrats work for us, they only give us so much before bending for their donor money. I’ve always had this vague notion that for even the best intentioned, there’s only so far you can climb the ladder of politics before you refuse a bribe, or lobbying money, and they just boot your ass. Or blacklist you, or whatever, you just get locked out. I dunno how to end this, except to say that the whole world needs a massive paradigm shift, and it just doesn’t look like we gettin it.

This really seems like the church doing PR: was a good pious rich kid and used social media to proselytize, then a couple people prayed to him and claimed to be healed (what he is being canonized for). And when I looked for controversy around it I just found some extreme dark-age type Catholics who are even more self-subsumed than most.

Thousands years old religions just don’t work without asking for extreme delusion. I like that church etc helps form community and gathers folks, but that’s about it; the message has been lost to all but a few.

That’s just it though. These folks seem IMPOSSIBLE to get through to. Though admittedly my experience may draw from some of the lead-alzheimer’s cadre of boomers. I really wish I knew how to help these people. I’ve been compassionate, patient, understanding; and I’ve also brow beat the shit out of em, gotten in screaming matches (not too often, but they tend to respect a level of violence). And it tends to have little effect. It’s the part of this that vexes and hurts me the most, and why I can’t help but feel this will only be rectified with chilling violence that none of us want and are ill-suited to execute. Ugh.
