  • if you can’t get your haswell qsv to work (it does here, btw) and need to make a move…

at that budget (100gbp ~ 120eur ~ 125usd), your best play might be the cheapest, lowest wattage video card you can find that works with your software and supports at least the encoding you need (if not also newer formats).

you might find something like an alder lake n-series barebones mini pc or itx/matx board/cpu (might not be a ‘drop in’ swap in your t20) for something at least close what you’re looking to spend. anything else for 100 quid is probably gonna be surplus or used stuff you can find locally.

  • his election in 1976 was the first one i remember. i was in primary school at the time. i got to stay up to watch the news coverage on tv that night.

    i’ve been a dfl’er ever since.

in our own mock elections at school, he won by a wide margin (and again in 1980, as did mondale in 1984). in 1980, i was one of the kids in class assigned to stump for carter for a class project.

he will always be near the top of my list of favorite or ‘best’ presidents.

  • i’ll play the other side here for a minute.

multiple rants about a shipping screw.

rants about the slow laptop sodimm ram, then they went online and compared prices of different speeds of desktop dimms instead. this, after they nitpicked the web site’s specs down to the millimeter.

everything they did was ‘as shipped’. they didn’t update windows, they didn’t update bios, they didn’t update drivers…

my guess is this system was built back before bios and microcode updates were available to fix the problems of 13/14th gen silicon drawing too much power, and the lower power envelope was the only corrective action available at the time.

i would like to see an honest follow-up on a fully updated and patched system.
