Because military threat is more imminent. From a logical POV it’s absurd, but sadly most world leaders don’t use their brains or they can’t fathom how a slow change can be slowly killing us.

World News@lemmy.world•Purra wants to close Finland's education agency following her party's accusations of 'woke ideology'English
1·3 months agoTo be fair, this mainly seems lika Purra being Purra, or in other words, a lunatic. This is only her proposal for new budget cuts and none of the other government parties have agreed with them so far.
In fact, even the NCP have said this proposal doesn’t seem reasonable and will need a lot of negotiation to even become somewhat feasible. Let’s see this autumn where the negotiations lead us, but I don’t believe most of it will make it into the budget plan.

World News@lemmy.world•Thai PM says dispute with Cambodia could 'escalate into a state of war'English
6·3 months agoAs far as I understand, it’s still a bit unclear.
Thailand claims Cambodian troops were approaching a Thai border guard station and started firing towards the Thai soldiers, leading to the Thai soldiers firing back.
Cambodia claims the patrol was walking the regular route, and Thai soldiers suddenly opened fire towards them.
Obviously one (or both) is lying, and the situation escalated quickly.

World News@lemmy.world•Finland notifies UN of withdrawal from landmine ban treatyEnglish

Because it’s not kilowatt per hour (kW/h), it’s kilowatt hours (kWh). It would be fine to say GW years, but then the question would be over how long? Most likely one year, which gives us GWy/y = GW.
