  • Useless to you. I extremely need to know the Pythagorean Theorem for my work. Actually, absolutely everything I have ever been taught in math class ever, literally all of it and so much more, I have used. But I’m starting a PhD in electrical engineering in the fall, so I’m a bit biased 😆.

For me personally, dissecting frogs (well actually I dissected a clam) was probably a waste of time, but for at least some of my classmates it was probably helpful. Long division is important because it stimulates algorithmic thinking, which is important for living in a computerized world. Area of a trapezoid is important because… sometimes trapezoids show up, or you can approximate a more complicated shape with a trapezoid whose properties are well understood.

  • Please elaborate what in my text gave you such an impression.

    Previous reply:

Are we supposed to be very very horrified that 9 innocent people died in a plane crash?

Yes oh my God some of them were children

So, of course at least 5 %, possibly almost 10 % of Russian civilians are innocent, but out of the 44 adults that died, that is statistically about 2 to 4 people in the whole plane, plus the five children.

Of course the statistically average Russian isn’t completely blameless for supporting the Russia-Ukraine war, but that doesn’t mean they deserve to die in a plane crash!

Like the entire argument you’re making and the fact that you’re making it to argue against what I previously is what gave me the impression that your empathy is conditioned on where someone comes from.

  • This was second hand from an internal call, not an official statement. Even in an internal call he used the more graphic word “slaughter” rather than “violence” or “killing”.

Good catch. I agree with you here.

This is action, which you have to admit is far beyond the bare minimum of flapping lips.

Not for a man as powerful as the head of the Catholic Church. He could do more.

I disagree with organized religion as a whole but I am not going to bad mouth a group that was housing 600+ people in their church, including elderly, disabled, and children.

Yeah I really meant to yell at Leo in particular because IMO he’s kind of a moderate (compared to Francis). Good point.

Pope calls his Cardinal in Jerusalem, not to tell him to stop his aid deliveries out of a concern for safety but to convey that they need to work harder to “stop the slaughter”. Again, that’s more than the “bare minimum”.

Again I think that for such a powerful man, this is the bare minimum. For example, go to the church himself instead of sending his people.

  • No he’s not. He’s doing what the United States does exactly as it was designed.

The United States always has been an exclusionary, racist, classist, sexist, and LGBTQ-phobic settler-colonial project. The principles patriots claim to be the governing values of the United States are in opposition to the reality of the project.

If patriots want to actually create a society based on their stated values, then the United States needs to be dismantled as a prerequisite. Put simply, the real values of the United States are the maintenance of capitalism and white supremacy. If your values are even slightly in opposition to that, then the United States will crush you once it begins to notice your presence.

But in order for patriots to actually live their stated values without contradictions, patriots need to throw off the chains of their own patriotism…which lays bare the fact that so many remaining patriots actually do secretly like the openly oppressive parts of the system that they would otherwise claim to hate in polite company.
