Any day now…
Any day now…
Oh. Okay. THIS is the crisis moment. Sure.
No, no… they didn’t say they couldn’t get him back. They said they don’t have to, even though the supreme court upheld the district court order to facilitate his return. In a rare unanimous decision I might add. They’re not even trying to pretend they care what the courts say at this point.

Absolutely. Until I was in my 20s everyone I knew referred to me by a nickname. Everyone I’ve known since before that time still does. The only purpose behind this is to target a vulnerable group for cruelty.
Ah yes. Let’s arrest a bunch of immigrants for the terrible crime of… paying taxes.
Are you sure that’s an Enhanced Driver’s License (EID)? That sounds like the standard renewal fee for a regular driver’s license, which doesn’t meet the Real ID requirements. To get the EID you have to go through a whole different application process that requires proof of citizenship. You can find the fee schedule here: https://dol.wa.gov/id-cards/enhanced-id-card-eid/get-enhanced-id-card-eid
Those fees are in addition to the normal driver’s license fees.
Not sure how they’re handling this in other states, but here in WA, to get a Real ID compliant driver’s license you have to pay $116 for the first 5 years. I think it’s a bit less to renew once you’ve been through the application process. Or I can pay $130 to get my passport renewed and it’s good for 10 years. That covers both domestic and international flights. So I don’t really see the point of also getting a Real ID if you already have a passport. And honestly, even if you don’t plan to travel international any time soon, the passport is probably still a better deal in the long run.
My wife and I are in the market for a 3rd car because our oldest is driving to community college most days, leaving us down to one car between us. She wants an EV, so we’ve been shopping the local used lots. They all have DOZENS of Teslas, and they’re very eager to sell them.
What? Where is that legal? You should be paying tax on the full purchase price of the new vehicle. In every transaction I’ve done, the trade-in is simply treated as part of the down payment or the full payment if you aren’t financing.
It was raining yesterday. Less incentive to go look at pretty flowers. Then again, less incentive to be outside protesting, so go us!
These laws are stupid and pointless, full stop. There are already plenty of existing laws against doing the sort of things that would actually be harmful. Just having a law to stop someone from entering the “wrong” restroom is stupid because there are plenty of reasons why someone might need to do so, even if they aren’t trans or intersex or whatever. Just entering a restroom is not harmful to anyone. And as you point out, this law doesn’t stop them if they have the intent to do harm. All it serves to do is give the people in authority an easy way to punish a group they’ve identified as “bad”.
Things may already be getting iffy at the state department. My wife and I both put in passport renewal requests on the same day in February. She got her new passport in the mail about 2 weeks later. Mine took another 6 weeks.
Someone needs to start printing up massive numbers of posters with that picture of her face and in large bold lettering: “ARRESTED FOR ENTERING A WOMEN’S RESTROOM”
Plaster that shit all over the state. Let people see just how ridiculous and cruel the law is.
This. SO HARD.
McConnell got his first election win in Kentucky by making promises to union leaders that he promptly turned around and broke as soon as he was in office. He has never cared about anyone or anything except consolidating power under the Republican party. He got exactly what he always wanted but now he’s not happy with who’s at the reigns. Well, guess what, Mitch? That’s the problem with consolidating too much power. You can’t control who wields it.
And ships.
Agreed on all counts.
Newt Gingrich went after Clinton for having an affair…
I don’t want to disagree with your main point, I just want to say that this is a misstatement of what happened with Clinton. He was being sued for sexual harassment by Paula Jones in civil court. He was impeached for lying under oath and obstruction during that investigation.
The hinky part of it is that Kenneth Starr was originally supposed to be investigating whether the Clintons had participated in fraudulent real estate dealings. When that investigation turned up nothing, he was directed to look into Clinton’s testimony about his relationship with Lewinsky, which had nothing to do with the original investigation. It was a massive fishing expedition. At one point they had the FBI working with Lewinsky’s friend to secretly record her talking about the relationship.
I’ve got some old Magic: The Gathering cards.
I mean, if they’re going to refuse to honor a supreme court decision that instructs them to facilitate the return of a legal immigrant from the foreign prison they sent him to, why the hell would they care about a DC circuit ruling?
